Cal answered bare-chested with a towel thrown over his shoulder and wearing a pair of bright blue swim trunks. My God, he’s sexy.

“Come on in and get changed. As you can see, I’m ready.” He grinned and stepped back so she could enter. “I’d offer you a drink, but we’re working later.”

“Good thinking, cowboy,” she said over her shoulder, then regretted the teasing. She needed to keep this afternoon strictly professional.

A few minutes later, she came out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her waist. Her blue two-piece, not quite a bikini, still bared a lot of skin.

Cal glanced at her and then headed for the door, obviously wanting to give her space too. “Follow me,” he said, and held the door for her. He led the way down to the elevators and then along a hallway when they stepped off on the first floor.

Soon they were at the indoor pool, and he led her straight to the hot tub. “Climb in. I’ll turn on the jets.”

At this time of day, there were only a few people in the pool and nobody at the hot tub. She climbed over the low wall and down into the tiled tub as the jets shot into motion. They felt amazing on her body as she waded over to the side and sat down on the ledge. The water came to her breasts, and she leaned back against the tile.

She studied Cal as he climbed into the small pool. His shoulders were broad and muscular, his chest sculpted muscle leading down to washboard abs. When did the guy have time to work out? Her eyes traveled to his muscular thighs as they disappeared into the roiling water. The man had a body to die for. An attraction that she couldn’t afford rose up inside her as she looked away.

He settled down across from her, scooting down in the water until it reached his upper chest. That meant his long legs extended to the other side of the pool, almost touching the bench.

“What do you think?” he said with a grin.

“I’m glad I came. This feels glorious.” And being here with him wasn’t so bad either.

“The only thing that would make it better is a glass of wine or a cold beer,” he said.

She sighed and sank lower into the water. “So true, cowboy.” There, she’d done it again. Something about being here with him disarmed all of her inhibitions.

He bumped her with his foot, sending tingles racing up her thigh. “Let’s make a pact. No work talk this afternoon. Once we pick up Escareno, that’s all we’ll do.”

She nodded. “Agreed.” After a pause, she said, “So, what’s Cal short for?”

He grimaced. “Calum. I have Scottish ancestry, and my mom thought she’d honor that.” He wrinkled his nose. “Nobody ever spells it right.”

Lord, he’d looked so adorable when he’d wrinkled his nose. “It’s a fine name. A strong one. I like it.”

He raised an eyebrow. “You do?”

“Yep.” She closed her eyes, focusing on the sensation of the water pummeling her body.

“So I guess Vic is short for Victoria?” he asked.

“That’s right. My dad chose my name. My mom’s Hispanic, and English is her second language. You should hear her say ‘Vic’. I learned a long time ago not to laugh, but it’s pretty funny.”

He chuckled. “I can hear it now.”

“So what did you want to be when you were a little girl?” he asked.

She glanced at him. His eyes were closed, his long body half submerged under the water.

“A firefighter. I thought it was so cool that they could put out fires. I was afraid of the stove. We had a gas one, and I thought all firefighters must be really brave. I wanted to be just like them.”

He grinned and shook his head. “A firefighter. Not a princess?”

She grimaced. “Yuck. And wear dresses all day? Not my style, cowboy.”

“I’m beginning to get that. Do you ever wear a dress?”

She shrugged. “If the occasion calls for it. But not for fun, I’ll tell you that.”

He laughed.
