She grinned, remembering at least one occasion when that had been true.

He continued, “I’m truly blessed to be a part of your life, which today becomes our life together. I promise to listen to you, to honor you, and to always take care of you.” He stopped and smiled. “At least as much as you’ll allow me to.”

She laughed.

He squeezed her hands. “I promise to love you now and until the day I die, sweetheart.”

Moved beyond words, she felt a tear slip down her cheek, and she quickly wiped it away.

Todd handed Cal the wedding band, and he slipped it onto her finger.

Now it was her turn. She said, her voice firm and strong, “I knew the day you asked me, Cal, that I’d rather die than live a hundred years without marrying you. You make me feel happier than I ever could imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible. I promise to never forget that this is a once-in-a-lifetime love. I’ll love you through the good days and the bad, for now and for ever and ever.”

Her sister handed her the ring and she slipped it over Cal’s knuckle and onto his finger.

The priest said, “I pronounce you man and wife. Cal, you may kiss your bride.”

Cal grinned and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her long and slow, and as thoroughly as she’d ever been kissed.

She reveled in it, kissing him back as tingles raced through her body. Her sexy man was now her sexy husband. The organ began to play Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”, and her heart overflowed with happiness as Cal led her down the stairs.

Her mother had planned a large reception at a downtown ballroom. In keeping with tradition, they would have a mariachi band and live music would run long into the night. They’d stay overnight in their new home, and then they would be off early in the morning for a 7:00 a.m. flight to Honolulu.

Cal helped her into the white limo out in front of the church. As he slid in beside her, he whispered, “Love you, honey, forever.”

She brought his hand to her lips and smiled into his eyes. “Forever, sweetheart.”

Chapter Fifteen

Cal stepped out ofthe taxi at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki’s Duke Kahanamoku Beach and immediately noticed the humidity. Their flight had arrived at 3:45 p.m., which seemed deceptively early due to the time change. It had actually taken them over twelve hours to get to Honolulu.

Vic looked at him and smiled. “This is a bit different from our dry Texas air, huh? I may melt.”

He put his arm around her as they headed for the hotel entrance. “And spoil our honeymoon? Don’t you dare.”

She chuckled. “I’ll suck it up, but let’s get to the beach and that gorgeous water we flew over.”
