I just wished I knew what was going on in her mind, too.

Chapter Fifteen

Krissy

The next morning, I woke up with nothing but confusion in my mind.

All I could think about was the night before, and I didn’t know what to make of it.

I rolled over in bed, looking at my guitar resting on its stand on the other side of my bedroom. It looked so good in the early morning light, and I wanted to get up and play something to take my mind off the confusion I was feeling. But I was having a tough time getting the motivation to get up.

It was Saturday, and I didn’t have anything planned for the day.

There had been some mention the day before about hanging out with Kim and helping her with her flowers, but if I did, it wouldn’t be until later that morning or even that afternoon.

I was surprised by someone knocking on my front door, so I got up and slipped on a bra under my tank top before heading to the door. I wasn’t expecting anyone, and it was early, even for Kim. Especially since I left the bar the night before, not long after they did, so I knew how late they were up.

I peeked through the window to see who was outside and squealed.

I couldn’t get the door open fast enough, laughing and jumping when I let Erin inside.

She, too, was jumping and giggling, throwing her arms around me and pulling me into her for a tight hug as soon as we were calm enough to do so.

“What are you doing here?” I asked. “I didn’t know you were coming!”

“I know, I know, I wanted it to be a surprise,” she beamed. “I told Neils I was going to come see you today, and I wanted to have the Jeep, so he made sure he had the day free to take care of the kids so I could.”

“Oh, my gosh! I can’t believe you’re here!” I said again. I couldn’t stop smiling. Erin was my best friend, and I’d moved here to be closer to her. But I hadn’t had the chance to go visit since moving, and she hadn’t said a word about coming to see me today, either.

“I knew it was risky to just show up. I didn’t know if you had plans or anything or what your Saturday morning routine was, but I figured I’d give it a shot, and now I’m glad I did. I mean, unless you have plans?” Erin asked.

“No, none,” I said. “I might go help a neighbor out with some gardening later, but nothing big.”

“The crazy neighbor?” she asked with a smirk.

“If by crazy you mean crazy sexy,” I told her.

“Oh? So, you’ve changed your mind about him?”

“I don’t know,” I said. “I don’t know what to make of him now.”

“What happened?”

“First off, check out this guitar,” I said.

“Oh my God!” Erin’s eyes widened. “That’s a nice guitar. He evidently went and got you not only a new guitar, but one that’s nicer than any of the others you’ve had.”

“Right? I wasn’t sure he had purchased it for me or if it was just something for me to borrow, but last night he said it was for me to keep,” I explained.

“So, you had a conversation with him last night?”

“Wow, how long have I left you out of the loop? I don’t think I told you that I had a show lined up for last night. After it, he walked me home.”

“It’s been a while,” Erin laughed. “Which is part of the reason I just showed up today to hang out with you. I didn’t want our conversation to get wrapped up in other things with all the other distractions there are in our lives now. It’s been forever since you and I just got to hang out and not deal with any adulting.”

“Amen to that,” I agreed. “Well, why don’t you have a seat? I’ll make us coffee. Do you want breakfast?”

“No thanks,” she said. “I grabbed something on my way out of Key West this morning.
