Teo’s phone rang, and we all tensed.

“Ciao,Marco.” I held my breath as Teo listened to the chatter on the other line. “You did?” His voice lifted and I sat up straighter in my seat. “Okay, let me put you on speaker.”

With the press of a button, Marco’s voice came through the phone loud and clear. “Okay, based on where you guys are right now, you’re going to want to take A1 toward Parma.”

“Where the hell are they going?”

“I don’t know. As soon as I catch them on another camera or toll, I will let you know.”

“Stay on the line in case we need to change directions quickly.”

“You got it, boss.”

We followed the directions as Marco tracked Romano’s car until we finally lost him somewhere deep in the Emilia-Romagna region.

“What are they doing bringing her way out here? This isn’t their territory and as far as I know, they don’t have any ties to the area.”

“I don’t know but something feels off about this. If they were just wanting to hide out, there were plenty of closer places.”

“We’re missing something.”

"And I think I know what," Marco answered over the phone and I jumped, having forgotten he was still there.

"What is it?"

I managed to track the phone of one of Romano's men. They are at the home of the Fabbri crime family’s don."

"So, they've teamed up with Fabbri? That doesn't make sense. We've never had a problem with them."

"We haven't exactly been friendly either. Maybe Romano struck some kind of alliance."

"Well, it looks like we're going to find out," I said with determination.

"Hold on a minute. Enzo, we can't just go in there, starting a fire fight. We're outnumbered."

"What if it was Mia in there?" I snapped at Teo. "Would you let anything stop you from storming in there and rescuing the woman you love?"

"You love her?" Alessandro asked curiously.

"I do."

"Okay," Matteo sighed in resignation. "But we have to be smart about this."

"Agreed."

" We can't win in a firefight but maybe if we go the Diplomatic way?"

"That's a good point, we've never had a problem with the Fabbri family so there's no reason I can see that they wouldn't be open to a meeting."

"But what if theyhavemade some kind of alliance with Romano? We would be behind enemy lines without a way of defending ourselves or getting out. I know you want to save Aurora from these men but if we can't follow through then it's not going to be any better for her and it'll just be worse for us."

Diplomacy is our best bet,” Teo said definitively.

“What if one of us goes on a diplomatic mission and the others hang back in case there's trouble? If they don't expect more people we can catch them off guard."

“That's not a bad idea.”

“I'll go in first to talk to them,” I volunteered.
