Jaxton releases one of his blanched knuckles and grips my hand. “Most of the people out there just want acknowledged—an autograph or picture—they’re overly excited to see their favorite actor. But sometimes the crowd gets too aggressive, which is why we keep the bodyguards. It’s only a precaution.”

“What about the guy who tried to open my door? Would he have hurt me?” My spine stiffens as nerves rack my body. Dealing with these types of people daily must be exhausting.

Jaxton’s eyes darken. “It’s hard to say,” he admits. “They’ll open doors to get better pictures, ask questions, or try to pry on conversations that they have no entitlement to. My team will take care of the guy back there. We’ll ban him from all our locations while we’re here. We don’t tolerate people like that.”

“If today is any indicator of how you live your life, I can see why they’re worried. You can tell them I’ll make sure you check in throughout the day.” I try to lighten the mood, because I can tell that Jaxton’s affected by what just happened. Not only with his bodyguards, but with the reporter trying to open my door.

“This is part of the reason I didn’t want to tell you what I did for a living. You treat me normal, like any other person off the street.” He glances over and smiles.

My heart breaks. He may have fame and fortune, but losing ‘normalcy’ may be too high a price. “Always.”

Shortly after, we pulled onto a country road, surrounded by giant pines. I recognize the area but haven’t hiked in this direction. There’s nothing out this way, other than more pines and flat open brush.

“I thought you were filming in town?” I ask, curious.

He slows when cars, vans, and trailers come into view. “We’re done filming in town for now. There’re a few forest scenes that’ll take the longest, so it’s easier to start with them. Sometimes we’ll film the last scene in the movie on the first day. It’s pretty cool to see how they string all the pieces together in the end.” He parks next to one trailer and turns to face me. “This is my trailer. You can hang out here or watch me do my scenes. I know this is overwhelming, so I want you to know that you’re welcome to escape here any time. You don’t have to check in with anyone, okay?”

“Thank you, but I think I’d like to watch you. If that’s okay?” The way his eyes darken to the color of a setting sun tells me I gave him the correct answer.

“Of course, that’s why I brought you here. I want you to be a part of my life—every part.” He reaches up and slides his fingers across my cheek.

I snuggle into his warmth. “I’d like that.”

He leans in to capture my lips in a quick kiss before hopping out. He moves quickly to my side, helping me with a chivalrous hand.

“They should have Sarah’s replacement here by now. Let’s go find out who it is.” With everything going on around us, I’d completely forgotten about Sarah. However, now that he’s brought it up, I’m nervous as hell. We start toward a group standing close to the cameras. “Hey, everyone. Sorry I’m late. The hotel was busy.” He glances down at me with a smirk. That devilish grin telling me he’s referring to the activities that went on behind closed doors, and not the photographers and fans outside. I hide my blush by stepping into him, grabbing his elbow, and leaning my cheek against his bicep. “This is Avery. Avery, this is Cameron, Jacob, and Nikki. They play my siblings in this film.”

I smile and say hello, shaking each one of their hands.

They’re all taller than my five-four frame. Nikki’s only about an inch taller, so at least I’m not too far behind. She has long blonde hair, perfect creamy skin, no flawsanywhere, big beautiful green eyes, and a delicate figure. Every guy’s dream girl. Cameron’s tall like Jaxton, about six feet. He has light brown hair, soft baby features, an average build, and his eyes are deep brown. Jacob’s the better looking of the two. Not that I’m checking them out.Okay, I’m totally checking them out. He has nice tan skin, but his features are sharp like Jaxton’s, defined, dark brown hair, and hazel eyes. He has a nice build, his biceps are tightly hugging his shirt, and he’s taller than the other two by a couple of inches. I can see why they cast them in the film. They all have similar features. Not to mention sexy as hell.

“This the girl you’ve been sneaking off to meet and getting Sarah kicked off set for?” Jacob steps closer, wearing a playful smile.

Jaxton chuckles, clapping Jacob’s hand in his as a greeting. “Cut your shit. Leave her alone for at least the first day.”

Nikki laughs and rolls her eyes, as if this is a normal exchange. “Don’t worry about anything.” She waves me off. “None of us can stand, Sarah. You did us a favor.”

“I didn’t do anything.” I say, because I don’t want people thinking that I’m the person who wanted her replaced.

“You didn’t have to. Jaxton’s been itching for a reason to get her thrown off the set. You came along perfectly.” Her words ruffle my feathers. Even though Sarah was horrible, I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize her career. That’s not the type of person I am.

“All right, I’ve got to get to work, since we’re running late. Do you want me to show you where to sit, or is it okay if Nikki shows you?” He can tell I’m harboring nervous jitters and he wants to make sure I’m comfortable.

“I’m fine. Nikki can show me. I’ve kept you long enough.” A blush rises to my cheeks as I lean up on my toes and meet his lips.

Once he’s satisfied that I’m a pool of pudding at his feet, he whispers, “Be back before you know it.” And he’s off, blending in with his coworkers and cameras. They laugh together for a moment before slugging each other in the shoulders.Boys, and the way they bond.

I turn to Nikki, who’s smiling like she knows a secret. “Soo…” she starts. “You and Jaxton, huh?” She motions for me to follow her.

“I guess so.” Unsure of her motives, I’m cautious. I’ve heard this business is cutthroat, so I’m not going to trust blindly. “Sorry, if Sarah getting thrown off the set caused any problems.”

“No. Don’t worry about that. None of us can stand her. She weaseled her way into the role so she could stalk Jaxton. She’s always trying to touch him or get close to him any way she can. It drives Jaxton mad.” She pauses for a moment, contemplating her next words. “He sure seems like a giddy high school girl these days. He never shuts up about you. I think it’s sweet that he’s fallen for you in such a short period. In fact, I’d say you both look like giddy high school girls.”

Instantly, I like Nikki. I burst out laughing because that’s exactly how Jaxton and I are acting. “It’s intense, that’s for sure.”

“Shall we?” she says, snatching my hand as if we’re great friends. “We’re going over by those cameras. That’s where the next scene is going to be shot. The guys will be over there getting ready. I’m not shooting today. I just wanted to be here to meet you.” She let go of my hand and interlocked our arms instead.

“How did you know I was going to be here? He just asked me this morning.”
