She laughs, like my question is ridiculous. “Avery, we’re like a weirdly thrown together family. We have a group chat. He messaged saying you were coming to set. He’s excited to introduce you to everyone.”

My smile stretches—everyone’s so nice. She led us to a couple of chairs set behind the cameras. I could see the guys stretching and moving their mouths in big, open shapes. This was pretty cool, like a group of friends getting together to mess around. Jaxton occasionally looked my way, drawing silly-girl-blushes the entire time.

“So, what’s this movie about?” I asked Nikki to distract myself.

She turned toward me before answering. “Well, it’s a love story. Jaxton plays the hunk, and you know what part the guys and I play. The girl who’s stepping in for Sarah is Becca. She plays the girl who falls in love with Jaxton. It’s kind of like a Cinderella story. She moves to a new town in the middle of the school year, and most people are mean to her, but she meets this guy online, and they fall in love. While they’re talking online, they don’t know each other’s identities until they meet later. Cameron, Jacob, and I support Jaxton in his choice to be with her. Everyone else is pretty rude about it. It’s been done a bazillion times, but who can resist a love story?”

“Action.” Someone hollers before snapping something closed.

I watch the scene play out and realize how talented the crew is. Not just the actors, but every person behind the scenes. Each of them has a job and they do it quickly and efficiently. I wouldn’t be able to act naturally with all the cameras and equipment in my face. Sometimes the lens is a foot away and they never fumble. The crew did great, completing numerous scenes, and finishing the last one around three. Nikki and I moved further away from the cameras so we could talk.

“Avery, I can tell we’re going to be great friends. I’m so glad Jaxton finally found someone who deserves him. I couldn’t stand Sarah even when they were dating. She was one of those types that looked for attention more than caring for Jaxton. I can tell you’re in it for him and would much rather stay out of the spotlight.” She smiles. “Take care of him, he’s a great guy.” She’s a genuine person, which I have to admit, surprises me. I thought Hollywood was a corrupt business, full of people who will do anything to get ahead. Now, Jaxton, his family, and friends are proving me wrong.

“I will. I promise.”

“Okay, enough mushy stuff. The guys should be just about done. Maybe we can go catch a late lunch.”

“That sounds good. I bet Jaxton would love hanging out. It seems like I’ve been hogging him to myself.” I laughed a bit, glancing in Jaxton’s direction. He catches my eye and smirks, dirty thoughts reflecting in his golden depths.Ugh!I can’t stand it. I want to throw him on the ground and have my way with him every time he teases me like that.

Nikki fakes a cough to get my attention again. “God! You’re just as bad as him! Drifting off in your own world—a goofy smile on your face.” She smirks knowingly. “Come on. They’re done. Let’s go over there.” She pulls me off the chair, my ass hurting from sitting so long, just as the guys walk in our direction.

Jaxton wraps his arms around me, picking me off the ground, and locking lips the second he’s within reach. A small squeal of excitement attempts to escape, but he smothers it when his tongue invades and concurs.

“Find a room, you two,” Jacob mocks us jokingly.

“Nikki wanted to know if we could go get lunch with everyone. What do you think?” I ask.

“Sounds good to me. We should go to that restaurant you showed me. They have great burgers guys—you’ll love them.”

“All right. I’m diving!” Jacob yells. Jaxton and Cameron both curse under their breaths, creating a nervous buzz, but before I can ask, Nikki supplies the answer.

“They’ll bicker like old ladies going to bingo over who gets to drive, but J is the least of the fan favorites for driving.” We hustle to catch up to Jacob.

His car was nice—a cherry red BMW, white convertible top, and white leather interior. Cameron walked to the passenger side and opened the door. “Ladies first.” He says, smiling at Nikki and me.

“Thank you.” We both say in unison.

Jaxton climbs in the back with us and sits next to me. Cameron taking the passenger seat, as Jacob slams on the gas, dirt chunks flying out behind us.

We wasted time chatting and laughing until Jacob pulled up to the restaurant in record time. Inside, we found a booth big enough for us all. Now that we’re not under the radar, people are staring. Whispers started as we walked by each booth—a couple of girls ask for their autographs, which they gladly do with smiles.

We order and chat about films. They’re unbelievably easy to converse with—all having a great sense of humor. Our food comes, and we dig in, murmurings of delicious food round the table. It’s not until Jaxton and I automatically start handing over our condiments that they stare questionably.

“What are you two doing?” Jacob asks, watching me put my tomato on Jaxton’s burger.

“I don’t like tomatoes or onions, and he does. He doesn’t like the pickles, and I do, so we trade.” I offer a straightforward explanation.

Jacob shakes his head and tucks back into his burger.

By the time we’re done, the diner has gained patrons with cameras at the ready. But everyone else doesn’t seem to notice.

“So, what now? What are you guys up to today?” Nikki asks me.

“I’m not sure.” I say, looking to Jaxton for an answer.

“No plans. You guys?” Jaxton glances around the table.

“We have nothing to do. You guys want to hang out somewhere? It’s kind of hot outside. Swimming, maybe?” Cameron suggests.
