“With great difficulty.”

“Those claw marks on your back tell me it was a close call.”

I shrug. “It was nothing.”

Aden doesn’t blink, and I know he’s seen through me. Again.

Fucking prick. How the hell does he know me and Dariel so well?

Because he’s family, Kade. Not born from the same woman who threw you away, but family nonetheless.

“She cleaned it,” I say.

Aden nods. “I heard.” His lip twitches. “The bossiness, I wasn’t expecting.”

My cock twitches in memory at the order in her voice. “I like it.”

His gaze dips and amusement—true amusement—instead of the mask I’ve gotten so used to seeing swims in his vision. “You don’t say.”

“If he hadn’t been so desperate to get to her, I couldn’t have done it,” I admit as if it’s an afterthought.

Aden gazes back at me, his expression inscrutable. “What did he want to do to her?”

I raise an eyebrow. “What do you think?”

He stares at me for several seconds before releasing a heavy sigh. “Fuck.”

“That’s my line.” My tone is dry, but I let Aden see a little of the humor I thought I’d lost years ago. Three years exact. The day that Mona died.

He barks out a laugh, but it’s over far too soon. “What are we going to do?”

About the girl who feels like mine as much as she feels like Aden’s, or about Dariel, who could tear her apart if we leave them together in the same room?

“She could stay with me. Or with you.”

But Aden is shaking his head before I’ve finished speaking. “She needs more than that.”

I raise an eyebrow. “And you know this how?”

There’s no question in my mind that Aden is observant. Always has been. But he’s barely known Saige a few days. He can’t know her already. Not yet.

“She’s drawn to all of us.”

“Not Dariel.” I recall the fury darkening her eyes. “He did—” I pause. “No, hesaidsomething to her. I followed her from my apartment, but he was already fighting the shift, so I didn’t hear. She didn’t say what, but I doubt she’s going to be forgiving him anytime soon.”

“She will. You didn’t see the way she was studying the picture of us in my apartment, and you didn’t—”

I wait for him to continue, but when his hazel eyes deepen with desire, it triggers my own need. “What? I didn’t want?”

He blinks and he’s back with me again, but I know he’s still thinking about her.

He wants her, and from the way I would catch her watching him in the bar, she wants him too.

Maybe I can convince her to let me watch.

“I told her we were close, that we used to share everything.”

Anticipation of sharing Saige flares sharp and hot in my belly. “And her response?”
