Aden leans his shoulder against mine. “Told you.”

I turn to smile at him. “Thanks.”

“What for?”

For making me feel like everything is going to be okay. ThatI’mgoing to be okay.

“No reason.”

Back at the bar, I pass the money for the cocktail over to Killian and pocket the ten-dollar tip. But the glass of whiskey waiting on a black tray is all I can focus on.

When I glance over at my section and find the tables still empty, I scan the rest of the seating area. And deep in the shadowed back wall, someone is sitting there that wasn’t there before.

He doesn’t have a girl in a thong dancing for him, but it’s him. I’m sure of it. I can’t see his face, but I feel his attention. He’s looking at me again.

“Lily?”

Aden’s call draws my gaze away. I smile at him as I reach for the tray. “I can take this if you want? It’s just a glass.”

But he’s already shaking his head, his expression unreadable. “Sam will take care of it.”

Before I can push the issue, though I have no idea why I suddenly want to, Sam appears from nowhere. She grabs the tray before winding through the tables to the man hidden by shadows.

I couldn’t turn away even if I wanted to as she places the glass of whiskey down in front of him.

The music hasn’t gotten any louder, but I’m almost positive I can hear her laughing.

What is he saying to her?

When she tosses her braid over her shoulder, I know it’s more than what he’s saying.

He’s flirting with her, and she’s flirting back.

The sharp pain spearing through me surprises me. I don’t know who this guy is, or even what he looks like, but the thought of him flirting with the beautiful Sam hurts. A lot.

And I don’t know why.

“Lily, you okay?” Aden asks.

I drag my gaze from the back corner and force a smile on my face. “I’m good.”

He frowns, but before he can speak, another couple enters the bar and heads for one of my tables.

“Customers,” I say. “I should go over.”

And then I walk away from Aden, and from the man who it kills me to know he was flirting with Sam.

Please let tonight be so busy that I forget he’s even there.

KADE

My eyes track the man with a predatory smile as he cuts through the bar. His gaze has been on one thing and one thing only since he stepped through Cerberus’ entrance minutes ago.

Lily.

Not that it’s her real name. Not according to Aden’s text messages, each one getting terser and terser when I didn’t answer.
