His hand tightens. "You can, angel eyes."

He gives me a hard but brief kiss before releasing me. His hand returns to the hem of my shirt, but I hold on to it because I don't want him to take my shirt off, and I don't want him to see my weakness.

As the steam from the shower whirls around us, Kade gazes down at me as if he’s prepared to wait forever.

A long while later, I draw in a deep breath before I release it.

And then I let go.

He nods once. "Good girl."

Just two words and I feel the tension in my shoulders melt away as he eases my shirt over my head and tosses it on the ground beside the sweatpants.

I take a step toward the shower cubicle, but I don't make it any further before Kade has one arm wrapped around my hips as he holds me flush against his body.

He doesn’t move, just keeps me there, and it feels so good tucked against him like this, that I would happily stay like this forever. But then he lifts my wrist. My left one. The one that makes me turn my head away and squeeze my eyes shut in shame.

I brace myself for the judgment, or for him to call me weak for wanting to take the easy way out.

It doesn’t come.

His lips touch the scar, so softly at first, that I don't believe he's doing it. But when I tear my eyes open and turn to look, his gaze is on me as he kisses my scar.

My eyes fill with tears and I have to close them before they can fall.

After a moment, he lifts me, carrying me into the shower before he lowers my feet back to the floor. Steaming hot water flattens my hair to my scalp and eases my tense muscles, making me sigh in pleasure.

He takes my wrists and presses my hands flat against the wall.

"Don't move," he says, voice husky.

His order has heat flooding my body. Or maybe it's the feel of his eyes on me. He’s not gone for long, but he soon returns, swiping a cloth down my back, over the curve of my ass, and between my legs.

He touches his mouth to the back of my head and stays like that, one arm around my middle as if he knows I need help standing up, and his hand stroking the cloth over my tender skin, making me burn all over again.

"You're being very..." I drag in a deep breath when he sweeps the cloth up and over my breasts. "Thorough."

I feel his lips curve into a smile. "Is that you telling me you want me to stop, angel eyes?"

A hint of a smile creeps into my mind. "Don't you dare."

Who is this girl?I ask myself because she doesn't sound like Saige at all.

"Hmm, maybe you need—” A furious growl cuts him off mid-sentence.

Every muscle in my body tenses. Dariel. How the hell could I have forgotten?

I’m pulling away when Kade locks his arm tighter around me. "What did I tell you?” his question is soft with warning.

“Don’t move,” I whisper.

“Good girl.”

That’s all he says. There’s no mention of a wolf prowling in an office a few feet away, or what we’ll do if he gets out and comes after me the way he was so determined to do before.

When his hand burrows between my legs this time, there’s no cloth, just his strong fingers stroking me with the same easy confidence that makes me certain he knows exactly what I want. My eyes flutter closed. “Kade,” I breathe.

He murmurs something in my ear that I don’t catch, but it makes me sigh as a slow-building pleasure sweeps through me.
