“Zoran!” I spun around, shoving him away from me. He didn’t move, but he did blink.

And some of the glow faded.

This was my chance.

“The guard who was holding on to me earlier dragged me away from the baths with a knife to my back,” I said quickly, as I retied my dress and fixed the position of it. “I don’t know if he meant to cut me. But like I said, I’m fine. Killing him will make your people hate me even more than they already do, so I don’t want you to kill him. I’m trying to make friends, to get them to accept me. I’ve been lonely here, and I need people.”

The glow in his eyes vanished entirely.

Fury replaced it.

He ripped the door open, but I threw myself between him and the way out. He stopped abruptly before we collided.

“What the hell was that?” I gestured toward his eyes. “You were glowing again. You can’t just walk away from me after that.”

He blinked.

The fury faded.

Confusion replaced it—and a little bit of worry.

He lifted his hand, and signed, “What happened?”

As he moved his hand, his nostrils flared, and his eyes widened. He lifted it to his nose, and inhaled.

His body shuddered.

Hurt swelled inside me. “I don’t smellthatbad.”

His eyes collided with mine again.

Rather than signing an explanation to me, he slid a finger into his mouth, and sucked.

Oh.

He hadn’t shuddered because I smelled bad.

If I hadn’t already been blushing, I definitely was after that.

We both remained silent as he slowly sucked my taste off his fingers, one by one.

There was a slight glow in his eyes, again. Just a tiny bit.

When he was done, and I was stupidly horny, he signed again, “What happened?”

“You pinned me against the wall and touched me, looking for cuts.” I didn’t bother with signing even though I knew I should. “In hindsight, it should’ve been a red flag when you grabbed my ass. And then my… you know.” I gestured to his hand, and his eyes darkened.

“How many times did you have to tell me to stop?” he signed back.

“I don’t know. You couldn’t understand me; I had to push you away.”

He snarled, and signed, “Unacceptable.”

When he stormed past me, I grabbed his arm, stopping him. “You didn’t explain anything, Zoran. I think I deserve an explanation.”

His chest was heaving, and he didn’t turn around to face me.

I tightened my grip on his arm, not willing to let him walk away from me without a valid explanation.
