But I find nothing but cool sheets.

“Sam?” I sit up and can tell immediately that the house is quiet. Empty.

I sit up and see a note on the nightstand. I pick it up and smile when I see the I love you. But it fades when I see that he had to go into work.

I know I shouldn’t be upset. The man has to work.

“Time to pull my big girl pants up and take care of my own problems.”

Starting with the one that is my parents’ legacy. If my sister, Bitty, knows even a fraction of her early history, I’m not sure she won’t hate me.

But I search my text messages and then dial the number for her. A voice picks up and for just a minute, confusion makes my brain go blank.

“Hello?” The voice that sounds like me says.

“Is this Bitty? Bitty Sweet?”

“Yes, can I help you?”

“This is…well, I guess I’m your sister. Lily. Liliana.”

“Oh my!” Her voice gets warmer and I swear I can hear the smile in her voice. “I’m so excited to meet you. Did you know anything about me?”

I shake my head, forgetting that she can’t see me. “No. I didn’t know anything about you until that man saw us at the bar.”

“Okay. Well, I knew a little bit about your dad but not much about you. Otherwise I would have tried to find you ages ago.”

I nod my head. “Me too. I can’t believe I have a sister.”

“You do.” She laughs. “Can we meet?”

“I’d like that. Is there somewhere you’d like to meet?”

“My hubby has a place in the next town over. The gym here. You ever heard of it.”

“I have. I didn’t know that you were married!”

“I am. And he’a bit overprotective so prepare to be questioned.”

I giggle. “Yeah. Well, I have a man too and he’s like that as well.”

“These men,” she says lovingly and I feel happiness in me when I realize that she’s really happy. It sounds like she’s got a man who loves her desperately.

“How about we meet at his gym today? I’d really love to meet you.”

“I’d like that as well.”

“So how about at one?”

“I know that I’ll have to call Sam and let him know but I’m sure he’ll be alright with it. As a matter of fact, I figure he’ll come home to go with me.”

“Probably. I know Clay would.”

So we make arrangements and then the doorbell rings. “I’ve got to go.”

“Me too,” she says. “I can’t wait to meet you. I always wanted to have some kind of family.”

“Me too,” I sigh. “Thank you for finding me.”
