“Sam?”

“Who is this?”

“This is Gemma, Lily’s friend.”

“Do you know where she is?”

“I do. A woman came to your place and claimed she was your ex wife and that she had your kid. Lily was upset that you didn’t take care of the kid. Kinda like her dad.”

“She should know I’d never do something like that.” I groan. Not to mention I don’t have any kids.

“I’ll deal with that. But I don’t have any kids with Tanya.”

“I figured that. You’re not a slimeball like her dad. You would take care of your kids.”

“Absolutely. Where is she?”

“She went to meet her sister at the gym that her husband owns. It’s really nice and so is Clay. We all met him.”

Except for me. Because she didn’t have faith in me. That hurts. But I suppose I do understand that she’s been dealing with a lot.

“When is she coming home?”

“She wants to stay here tonight.”

“Bring her back here. I’ll take care of her.”

“You better not hurt her.”

“I would never,” I huff.

“Good. I assume you’re gonna need some time to deal with your ex.”

“Yeah. Bring her back about six.”

“Okay. But behave.”

I snort. I hang up and glance down at the phone. I mark that number in my contacts. Gemma is important to my girl so she’s important to me.

Then I don’t even bother to change out of my work clothes. I call and check until I find which little bed and breakfast she’s at.

Ten minutes later, I’m striding in and asking for her room. And I guess because I look like I’m about to tear the place apart, they tell me where to find her.

I knock on the door and wait. And wait. Finally the door opens and Tanya smirks. “Hello, Sam.”

“Hello, Tanya.” I’d like to call her something else but I won’t say that to a woman. I’m too much of a gentleman.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

She leans against the doorjamb. “An anonymous friend told me about your little girl and I came to warn her what you’re really like.”

“I’m not the fucked-up one from our relationship, Tanya. That’s you. And if you ever come near me or my family again, I’ll make sure that you lose everything you have. We both know that boy isn’t mine. We didn’t even have sex the last couple of years of our marriage.”

She sniffs and eyes her long, painted nails. “Still the same old bastard I see. I told that Mr. Sweet that you probably hadn’t changed much over the years. He was happy to bring me out here to take care of your baby girlfriend.”

“Uh-huh. Well, Mr. Sweet is already in a world of trouble and you are a lying, scheming bitch. If I ever see you again, it will be too soon. Get out of town before tomorrow, Tanya.”

“You can’t threaten me.”
