“Marry me,” he murmurs again.

I laugh softly. “I already said yes, remember?”

“I know, but…” He presses a kiss to the top of my head. “I like hearing you say it.”

Tilting my chin up, I meet his gaze. Those dark eyes fill with warmth and wonder, as if he still can’t quite believe we’re here. As if this is all some beautiful dream he’s afraid of waking from.

“Yes,” I whisper, reaching up to caress his cheek. “A thousand times, yes.”

Josh smiles, the depth of love and joy in his eyes bringing tears to my own. Then he kisses me, and for a long moment we get lost in the sweetness between us. The rest of the world fades away until there’s only this, only him and the love we share.

When we finally break apart, I lay my head on his chest again, lulled by the steady beat of his heart. A contented sigh slips from my lips as I nuzzle closer, savoring his warmth and the feeling of his arms wrapped securely around me.

After a while, his breathing evens out and deepens. I glance up to find him sleeping, lips curved in a faint smile. He looks so peaceful like this, the usual tension eased from his expression.

My heart swells at the sight. However much or little time we’re given, I’ll cherish each moment we spend together. Through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, for as long as we both shall live.

I close my eyes, drifting off to sleep in the arms of the man who holds my heart. My fiancé. My always.

THE END.
