My vice was this damn tennis ball.

“Dom wants to go to Ashford’s now that you took Dex and JJ.”

“I heard. I’m sure you remember how good their food is. I’m surprised you haven’t taken them yet.”

“Honestly, it slipped my mind. With all Perry has going on, we don’t get out a lot and when we do, we usually end up at Untouchable to watch Dom dance.” Perry was a workaholic. I understood, he ran the company. He would work twenty-four seven if he wasn’t forced to take a break. Or if he didn’t need sleep.

Neil stuck his head in my office. “Greer?”

I paused my tennis ball bouncing and looked at him.

“You’re wanted in the conference room.”

I groaned. “If you tell me another thing blew up, I’m quitting.”

“No, you’re not,” Perry said, coming into the office. “You’ll work here as long as I do. You’re a lifer.”

“Thanks for making this job sound like a prison sentence,” I deadpanned.

“Greer…” Neil reminded me.

Goddammit. I just wanted to sit here, bounce this fucking green ball, and try to decompress before I exploded. I was a laid-back guy. I didn’t let a lot bother me. But days like today made me wish I’d stayed in bed this morning.

Perry and Peyton left after another push from Neil to get my ass moving. I trudged next door to the conference room, side-eyeing Neil while I went. He smiled because he knew I wasn’t serious.

One step into the room and I froze. On the table was a spread fit for a king. A man in a white chef’s jacket was setting it out. He wasn’t who held my attention. Near the windows was Dexen looking gorgeous in a pair of light-gray slacks, a white button-down, and a pale-pink tie.

“Happy Monday,” he said with a grin.

“If this is how we celebrate Mondays, I’m in,” I replied, walking toward him. I pressed my lips to his, letting him know how happy I was to see him.

“You remember Dana,” he said, reminding me we weren’t alone in the room.

“Greer,” Dana nodded in greeting.

“It smells great,” I told him. “What did you make?”

“Butternut squash soup to start. Roasted duck for the main course with a mushroom risotto. For dessert I have banana biscotti since they travel well back to your desk to enjoy with a cup of coffee, which I’ve also brought. My personal brew.”

“Jesus, you hauled all this here for lunch?”

He nodded. “Dex wanted to show you and JJ how much he appreciates you.”

I looked at Dexen. “I hope you pay Dana well.”

Dexen grinned. “He does just fine.”

Dana finished unloading the cart he’d brought with him and left it in the corner. “I’ll be back later to pick this up.”

“No need,” Dexen told him. “Take my car back. I’ll put this in the van and return with it when I’m done.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely.” Dana exchanged keys with Dexen. Just as he was walking out the door, JJ walked in.

His eyes lit up. “Dex, what are you doing here?” Then he saw the food. “Hell, yeah.” He gave Dexen and me each a quick kiss. “What’s this for?”

“I wanted to surprise you and Greer with lunch.”
