My brows furrowed, confusion settling in me. “How?”

He laid the lily on my cheek, then brushed its petals across my eyes causing me to let out a content moan. The flower traveled down to my nose and I inhaled deeply. “My heart betrayed me,” he whispered, “when I fell in love with you.” His eyes filled with tears, causing me to choke up. “I love you, Kavari.”

I took a deep breath, calming my racing heart. “For the record, I don’t forgive people easily.”

He pulled the lily away and nodded. A small tear escaping his eye captivated me, making my heart swell immensely.I made a demon cry?

“But since I love you too, I guess I could at least let you prove to me how good a demon you are.”

“You love me?” he asked, his sad expression now confused.

“How could I not?” I let out a breathy laugh. “You always let me have the last piece of pizza.”

Zell laughed at my joke before an evil grin spread across his face, one I had missed. He stood from the barstool and fell to his knees. He closed his eyes and clasped his hands together like he was praying.

“What are you doing?” I asked, in shock. When he didn’t answer, I came from behind the bar. I squatted down in front of him and placed my hands over his clasped hands. “Zell, why are you on the floor?”

His eyes popped open. “Showing you how good a demon I can be.”

“Get up,” I said, yanking on his arm. His actions were fast, pulling me to the floor with him.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered, his blue eyes sparkling. Unable to resist him, I placed my lips against his.

He pulled away. “Does this mean you forgive me?”

“Mostly. You only got twenty dozen flowers, there was room for a couple more.”

He laughed again before running his finger across my lip. “I thought of you while I was gone and took it upon myself to acquire you some powers in case you forgave me.”

“Like what?” I asked. “Please tell me it’s the finger-snapping clean thing.”

He shook his head with a sly grin. “I got you something much cooler than that. Since I can’t hear your random thoughts anymore unless you want me to, I figured some telepathy would help when we are on missions. We can communicate with our thoughts now, so if you want to speak to me . . .” Zell’s mouth stopped moving but his voice continued in my head, just think what you want to say in your head while thinking of me and I’ll hear it.

My eyes widened, my heart racing. “What the fuck?”

I said use your head, little bee.

What the fuck?

He laughed once again, the beautiful sound filling me with more love than I had ever known in my life before pressing his lips against mine.

Chapter 12

Kavari

Monthslater...

“That one right there,” Zell said, pointing to a handsome man at the bar who looked like he could be a lawyer. “He tends to visit his daughter’s bedroom at night and—”

“That’s all I need to hear.”

Zell was using magic to mask us, so no one could see us unless he wanted them to.

Leaning in, he placed soft kisses on my neck. I tilted my head, enjoying the moment. “Be safe, my little bee.”

“I always am,” I said before strolling toward the soon-to-be contracted soul.

“May I have a seat?” I asked the man, a sinful yet sexy smile plastered on my face.
