“Absolutely not,” I say, ushering him toward the door. “Bye Troy.

He stops, turning to me.

“You’re done at five, right?” Troy asks and I nod. “I’ll be here at five sharp and then I’ll walk you home.” He breaks away from the wall. “Have a nice day, spidey.”

I stare at him as he walks away and strangely I already miss him. Everything seems so dull without him, even this colorful shop. I glance at the clock and it’s only a couple of hours left until I get to see him again and now I’m giddy.

He’s so...so different.

A girlish smile tugs at my lips, but I gasp when Jess bumps into me, nearly knocking over the computer. “So that guy, huh?” she says, chewing frantically on her gum. “How long have you known each other?”

Wincing, I reply, “We met yesterday.”

“Get the hell out of here!” Jess shrieks. “What the fuck, that’s crazy.”

“I know it’s...it’s a lot and I’m just as surprised as you are.”

Peering at me, Jess murmurs, “Well, now I’m curious. What did you do to make him crazy?”

“Nothing,” I blurt with flaming cheeks, “I just gave him a tiny kiss, that’s all.”

Jess lets out a whistle. “If he does that after a kiss, then what’s he going to do after you screw him.”

She jumps down from my desk, walking away. I drag a hand through my hair, then continue taking care of customers and as soon as I’m done for the day, I glance out the window.

Just like he promised, Troy is waiting outside. Why do I have the feeling he never went home?

My stomach flip-flops and I can’t stop myself from flashing a big smile. Taking my stuff, I walk out but tense when Jess screeches,

“We know your face and your name, man. Your fingerprints are all over this place...” She laughs as if it’s a joke, her laughter only cutting off when the door closes and I cautiously stare at Troy. His shoulders have tensed and there’s a repulsed curve to his mouth.

“She’s always awkward like that, in case you were wondering,” I try, letting out a nervous laugh but Troy’s not ready to ignore this.

“Does she think I’m a danger to you?” he says in a low, hurt tone and I flood with guilt.

“No, heck no,” I hurry to say, “she just forgot to take her meds this morning.”

“Fuck,” Troy groans, rubbing his nape, “look, I’ll laser it off if it’s going to be that big of a deal.”

My jaw slacks. “You would do that?”

He shrugs. “If it makes you uncomfortable, then yeah.”

Shaking my head, I link my arm with Troy’s and we start walking. “Jess is just jealous because nobody has ever putherface on their skin,” I jest and Troy relaxes, tossing his head back and laughs.

The sun catches the lighter shades of his hair and my heart tizzies.

I feel something for him.

Something I’ve never in my life felt before and I’m not sure what it is, but I trust Troy to guide me through it. It’s new and it’s special. But mostly it’s just ours.

Troy

I can’t stop grinning. I’ve had Charlotte immortalized on my skin for life and now we’re walking side by side, holding hands. The sun is shining over our heads and this feels like a PG-13 movie. Only problem is I have a nagging feeling, I’ll get fired any second.

Feels like someone will point me out and yell that I’m a poor choice, then replace me with therealmale lead. Good things don’t happen to me. Girls like Charlotte don’t hold my hand or smile at me, and I feel like a fucking fraud.
