I stand, knowing I’m not letting him cut this short for me. “Ah, cool it Gav. Let the kids have some fun.” I wink at Adrianna. “Care to dance?”

As expected, she shakes her head. “No, thank you.”

“Arch, you can’t be serious. Where the fuck is Oak?” Gav asks.

I shrug. “Fuck knows. I don’t care.” Knowing he’s probably getting stuck in to the student he was supposed to be forgetting about tonight, since they’re both missing. “Dance with me, just once.”

Adrianna sighs in frustration before taking my hand, sparks shooting through my veins the moment our skin touches. I will have her, one way or another.

ADRIANNA

My skin crawls as I take Coach Daniel’s hand. It was give in or have him badgering me the entire night. He wants me to dance with him for one dance. I guess I can make it through that, even if it makes me want to puke.

“So, Adrianna. Am I finally wearing you down?”

I grind my teeth. “Not a chance in hell.”

He chuckles and yanks me against his chest. “I’ll wear you down eventually, baby girl.”

“Don’t call me that,” I snap as he spins me around and then yanks me against his chest.

“Or what, Vasquez? Are you going to test out your combat training on me here in the middle of the dancefloor?”

I sway my hips to the beat, remembering my salsa training that my mother enrolled me in when I was five years old. “Perhaps.”

His nostrils flare as he spins me away. “You’re a good dancer.”

“Did you expect anything else?” I ask, as he brings me back toward him.

“No.” He tilts his head. “It seems you’re good at everything.” His eyes narrow. “But everyone has a weakness and I intend to find yours.”

I swallow hard at the threat in his tone. I don’t have a weakness as such, but I do have secrets. I don’t want him to find out, or anyone, for that matter.

My way out of the shithole of a life my parents have planned for me after graduation, which involves betraying my own family. It could all go wrong if anyone gets in the way.

“I don’t have a weakness.”

He smiles, and it’s a smile that sends butterflies beating around in the pit of my stomach. “You’re a very bad liar, Adrianna.” The way he says my name almost sounds dirty and under the influence of three glasses of wine, I’m ashamed to say that my body is heating at the look in his eyes.

There’s no denying that Archer Daniels is beautiful. God like in his appearance. Tall and muscular, but not too bulky, with dark brown eyes that look richer than chocolate.

He pulls me close again to the music, swaying us to the beat. “I can see the desire in your eyes, no matter how hard you try to resist.”

“You are wrong,” I lie.

“I’m never wrong. Haven’t you figured that out yet?”

“What I have figured out is you’re an arrogant asshole.”

He spins me around, never once faltering from my barrage of insults. “I hear you don’t have a date for the winter formal.”

I narrow my eyes. “Where did you hear that?”

Coach shrugs. “Around. Is it because you are hoping to go with me, baby girl?”

I grunt in frustration. “No, I don’t want to go with anyone, and the staff can’t go to it, anyway. You’re a chaperone, for fuck’s sake.”
