Despite claiming that I didn’t hear his conversation, I heard every single word. And now, I’m going to be late meeting Nina because he insisted on fucking me and I have no choice but to follow him to wherever he’s meeting that woman on the phone.
I need to know what his plan is and how he intends to harm my family. A part of me agrees with his intention to stop my father in his tracks, but what if he kills him? Our family will be in ruin and Cain would be forced to take over leadership, and there’s no way in hell he’s ready for that. He needs to grow up first.
Isiah Darcy is a man fueled by darkness and I don’t know how far he’d go to get revenge for whatever wrongdoing my father did to him. I need to find that out.
He pulls up outside of an apartment block and gets out of his Porsche, smoothing down his navy-blue dress jacket. It’s crazy how he dresses so well all the time. It makes it more difficult to concentrate. Quickly, I park my car opposite and watch him at a distance as he climbs the steps of the entrance and presses the intercom on the side. Within minutes, he’s buzzed in and disappears inside.
“What are you up to?” I murmur to myself, narrowing my eyes.
I have no idea which apartment he’s visiting, but I have to try to find him. Climbing out of my car, I lock it and then head across the street, which is relatively quiet.
A man is just about to head into the building and he sees me, smiling and holding open the door.
“I’ve not seen you here before, sweetheart.”
I glare at him. “I’m not a sweetheart, and I’m married.”
He notices the ring on my finger and shrugs. “Never stopped me before.”
“Gross,” I say, dodging around him and rushing up the stairs.
“Rude bitch!” he shouts after me.
I ignore him and climb the first set of steps and pull my cell phone out of my pocket, dialing Isiah’s number and listening at the entrance to the corridor. The dial tone sounds, but I don’t hear the phone ringing in any apartment, so I head up the next set of steps and listen again, thankful he hasn’t cut me off. Again, nothing. The call goes to voicemail and I sigh heavily, moving to the next floor and calling him again. This time, I hear the distant jingle of his ring tone coming from the second apartment on the right, which I approach. Once I’m sure he’s in there, I end the call.
“Fuck’s sake,” Isiah says, shaking his head. “Sorry, I’m not sure what my wife could want from me all of a sudden.”
“Wife?” a woman’s voice questions, sounding almost jealous. “I didn’t know you were married.”
“It’s recent,” he says. “If she calls again, I’ll have to take it.” There’s some rummaging around in the apartment, and then I hear the woman speak.
“So, how are we going to stop this pedophile ring?”
“I don’t see any other option but assassinating everyone involved. Do you?”
There are a few moments of silence. “No, but a few of the targets are in the fucking government. They’re not the kind of people you kill and walk away from it unscathed.”
Isiah laughs. “I thought you knew who I was?”
“I do, but that doesn’t make you invincible.”
I hear footsteps padding up and down the room. “It’s our only option. I don’t care what it takes. I’m taking this pedophile ring down even if I go down with it.”
“That’s admirable,” the lady says. “But what about your plan for revenge on the Benedetto family?”
I straighten then, my heart pounding harder than ever.
“It’s part of my revenge. Killing Gio Benedetto is the top of that list.”
“And what about the rest of the family? I thought you wanted to annihilate them, too.”
