It’s hard to believe that this was all a ploy. For what end? I don’t know. Since there’s no sign of Gio, I’m starting to wonder if that son of a bitch managed to get one up on me.

Could he be behind all this?

If Gio is behind it all, then I seriously underestimated him and his intelligence. One guy grabs my arm and tries to pull it behind my back. I slip free and slam my fist into his nose, enjoying the audible crack that echoes through the vast room.

Another comes at me, trying to tackle me to the ground, but I step to the side and slam my foot into his crotch, making him screech like a little girl. I know fighting is futile in the long run, considering I’m outnumbered, but I won’t just stand there while these fuckers walk all over me.

“Are you sure you want to do this, Ethan?” I ask.

His jaw works. “Certain.”

He’s going to regret crossing me, that I’m sure of.

“Get him, boys,” Ethan instructs.

Men come at me from all angles, and I manage to ward a few of them off before they overwhelm me, tackling me to the ground.

“Motherfuckers,” I say, as they haul me to my feet and tie my hands together. “Why the fuck are you doing this?!”

“All will be revealed soon. I have something that is precious to you, I believe.” He tilts his head, a smirk on his lips. “Well, someone.”

All the blood drains from my body, as the only person on this earth that is precious to me is Bella.

“Who?” I ask.

“That very fuckable wife of yours.”

I start forward, insurmountable rage flooding my veins at breakneck speed as I try to get at him, growling like a rabid dog. “You keep your fucking hands off of her.”

“That, Isiah, is up to you.”

I bite the inside of my cheek, trying to find a way to bottle up the rage, trying to take control of my body. “What do you want?” I spit.

“It’s simple, really. You walk away with your girl and the man you want to get revenge on.”

My brow furrows. “Walk away from what?”

“The pedophile ring. We are taking it over.”

Sickness twists my gut as I realize what he’s saying. This son of a bitch and his men didn’t want to save kids. They saw dollar signs and want to keep running this sick and twisted ring.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“Jane alerted us to a competing operation, so we wanted to add it to our portfolio.”

“You are children traffickers?” I confirm, angry with myself, that I didn’t follow my instincts and do more digging on these guys, trusting Jane completely.

Ethan nods. “Amongst other things.”

I glance at Jane, who is standing to one side, eyes at her feet. “I can’t believe you are in on this, Jane.”

Her eyes shoot up and they’re glistening with tears, as if she didn’t really want this to happen. Her throat bobs as she swallows, and she glances nervously at Ethan.

“Jane has been with us since she was seven years old, haven’t you, sweetheart?” The man winks at her. “Of course she was going to tell us about a competing operation because she’s a good girl.”

Fuck.

I was right about Jane all along. The only thing is, she’s still under the thumb of her abusers. My heart clenches at the thought that this woman I trusted has been so badly abused she does whatever these men say. Once I get out of here, she won’t be included in the executions. Instead, I’ll free her from the chains these men have kept her in.
