Ethan takes the lead and wraps his arm around the first guard, snapping his neck with little effort. The man falls to the floor as I sneak up behind the second and do the same. When I turn around, I notice the spark of admiration in Ethan’s eyes, no doubt impressed I could kill as easily as he could. My well dressed and manicured appearance throws people off at times, but I always have been and always will be a ruthless killing machine. It’s what my dad brought me up to be.

As we move toward the entrance, I’m thankful that at the moment, everything is going to plan. Even so, I can’t shake this sense of foreboding, as if something terrible awaits around the next corner.

We make our way through the side entrance and into the main entryway, where we find more guards. This time, we’re spotted and the guards start to shout, pointing their guns at us.

“Fuck!” Ethan exclaims.

I duck down behind a pillar and pull my gun from my pocket. “Cover me.”

He nods in response and I move out of cover to shoot, taking down two men before anyone shoots a round. Clearly, they’ve got the guards in numbers, but they aren’t very skilled. The bodies pile up quickly, as Ethan grabs the opportunity and also breaks cover, taking down the three more guards in quick succession.

Grabbing the radio from his belt, he speaks into it. “We’re made. Go in guns blazing, boys.”

I’m certain that everyone inside must have heard the commotion, and it means Gio might be more difficult to get to.

The man is a coward in my eyes and he’ll run at the first sign of trouble, which means time is limited.

“Ethan, you go get the kids and secure the place. I’ve got someone I need to find.”

He nods. “See you when it’s over.”

I rush through the hall and toward the main events room, where the partygoers are congregated. When I get to the room, it’s utter carnage. Bodies of the pedophiles are piling up and there’s blood everywhere.

If any of those fuckers have killed Gio, I’ll murder them. They know he’s got to be saved for me. As I search the room, I see no sign of him.

“Fuck,” I mutter, holding the gun to my forehead as I try to work out where he would have gone.

One of Ethan’s guys rushes past. “Hey, you.”

“Yeah?”

“Have you seen Gio Benedetto?”

He shakes his head. “Nah, sorry man.”

I sigh heavily, glancing around the room. If he’s not here where all the other guests are, where is he?

“Isiah,” one of the men says, drawing my attention.

“Ethan has found the kids and the guy you’re after.”

I tense hearing he’s found Gio, realizing that I’m on the precipice of getting the revenge I’ve craved for fifteen years. It feels surreal.

“Where?”

The guy nods back the way I’d come. “In the bar. It’s the first door on the right of the entrance.”

My heart beats harder and faster, making me feel a little sick as I have waited too long for this moment, and now that it’s here, I don’t know how I feel. The entryway was eerily silent as I follow the guy’s instructions and enter the bar, only to come to a jarring halt when I see Ethan and most of his men standing there, guns pointed at me.

“What the fuck is going on?”

I glance around the room and see Jane to one side, glancing down at her feet.

“What is going on is that you’ve been played, Darcy,” Ethan says, pointing a gun at my chest.

I run a hand across the back of my neck. “And why exactly are you double-crossing me?”

He nods to one of his men. “Apprehend him.”
