I’ve never seen my men move at such speed, all of them, except Henry, rushing out of the basement of the warehouse. The scent of burned flesh tingeing the air.

“That was intense,” Henry says, that concern clear in his eyes.

“People still don’t take me seriously since I took over from my father. It was time I showed them just how far I’ll go to keep myself in power.”

He nods. “I understand that and they deserved it. I’m just...”

“Just what, Henry?”

His brow furrows. “Concerned about you.”

“Don’t be,” I say.

He swallows hard. “You were about to hack Liam to pieces with a saw.”

“And?”

His lips purse together, as he’s known me since I was fifteen years old. We’ve been through all the ups and downs as my father built everything here in London and rose to power. “I’ve never seen you like this before. Does it have something to do with the Benedetto family?”

I clench my fists by my sides at the mention of them, my rage was inflamed by Bella running out of my penthouse this morning as if fleeing a savage animal. Perhaps that’s all I am.

“Perhaps,” I murmur, shaking my head. “Being back in Washington brings everything back to the surface and all I feel is rage all the time,” I admit.

Henry nods. “It shows, sir, but I don’t think we have to worry about any traitors for a while.” He arches a brow. “Perhaps never after that demonstration.”

I glance at the carnage I’ve left in my wake. “Can you get this cleaned up? I need to get back to Washington right away.” There’s no point in me staying here. I need to get ahead of Bella and see her father first and tell him she’s trying to find any reason to get out of the engagement, including some notes I had on the family, which was merely research before I decided I might like to marry into it. Gio will understand that.

“Of course, sir. I’ll get some men onto it.”

I clap him on the shoulder. “Thank you. What would I do without you?”

He shrugs. “Who knows?

I laugh. “Call me if there are any more problems.” I turn to walk away.

“You’ve got it. Have a safe journey back, and sir...”

I stop and turn to face him. “Yeah?”

“Try not to lose yourself over there.”

“I’ll try.” Even though I know that I haven’t been myself for fourteen years. I lost myself when my brother died and my father forced me to dig his unmarked grave. I fear there’s no coming back from it, as the person I once was is buried too deep inside.

BELLA

“Where have you been?” Olivia asks as I walk into the hotel room. “I’ve been worried sick.”

I tilt my head. “Not worried sick enough to call,” I say, remembering the way she completely ditched me at the art exhibit.

Her lips purse. “I’ve been trying to call for the last hour and all I’ve gotten is a deadline.”

“My phone got smashed to pieces by my fiancé.”

Her brow furrows. “Did you have an argument?”

“When don’t we have an argument?”
