She shakes her head. “Not exactly, but they don’t need to know your name or even see your face.”

My brow furrows. “Are you suggesting that I let them do my work for me?”

“Well, you are a guest at the party, right? How are you going to break the kids out?”

She makes a good point, but I don’t like entrusting something this big to men I don’t even know.

“These men, they are vigilantes?”

“Yeah.”

I sigh heavily, pinching the bridge of my nose. If I were in London, I’d have my men do it, but it’s not like I can fly a bunch of them over without too many unanswerable questions cropping up. “Set it up,” I say, wondering if I’ll regret it. “I’ve got no other idea how to do this, so get me the men and give them the instructions on how to infiltrate the club.” I draw in a deep breath. “Whatever it costs, I don’t care.”

Jane smiles, and it’s an odd smile. “For a mobster, you sure care a lot about innocent kids.”

“I may be a mobster, but I’m not a monster.” I pin her with a determined glare. “Gio on the other hand...” I shake my head.

“Something tells me he did something to you that was very bad indeed.”

I swallow hard, as there’s no way I’m going to tell Jane about my true identity or Aiden’s death at the hands of their family. “He took something from me,” I grit out.

She nods as if she understands. “Someone you loved very much.”

My gaze snaps to her face and I shake my head. “What do you know?” Suddenly, adrenaline courses through my veins as I wonder if I’m going to have to silence her forever.

“Nothing, I just saw that haunted grief in your eyes. It’s a feeling I know all too well.”

I clench my jaw, as I’ve never been an open book, but this girl just seems to see right through my shields. It puts me on edge, but unfortunately, I need her. “Fine. So, you’ll arrange it with the men?”

“Of course, and I’ll be stationed outside in my old van as your eyes and ears. I’ll be linked to the guys and you and I’ll hack the CCTV so I can see what’s happening.”

“We will meet Saturday afternoon here so you can give me the equipment and run over the plan you’ve given to the guys.”

She does a mock salute. “Aye aye, captain.”

I glare at her. “See you then.” Turning around, I leave Jane’s apartment, feeling a little on edge. Stopping the auction will be the first big move I’ve taken against Gio. I just hope it goes to plan, even as dread settles in my bones. All this time I’ve known Gio is bad news because he killed my brother, but there’s nothing more deceitful than a villain, and it appears Gio is the worst villain I’ve ever known.

BELLA

“You look stunning,” Isiah says as I stand in the entryway of my house, wishing I wasn’t being forced into this.

“Whatever. Let’s get this over with.”

Dad appears. “Isiah, I’m glad you made it.” He takes his hand and shakes it like the gullible idiot that he is. “Are we ready to go?”

Isiah looks confused. “Your wife isn’t attending?”

“No.” He clears his throat. “Viola doesn’t like attending these events.”

Mom hasn’t been to Insignia with Dad in years. I don’t know why. She used to, but one time they had a big argument after it and ever since she’s never attended another one.

“What are we waiting for, then?” I ask, glaring at the two men I’m having to accompany to this bullshit party.

Isiah grabs my hand. “Nothing, let’s go.” He forcefully leads me out into the driveway ahead of my father, leaning in to whisper, “Do you often go to these parties?” There’s an odd tone to his voice.

“Never. This is the first I’ve been to.”
