Sammy had smiled and shrugged it off. “I don’t know why I was so naïve thinking that if I pulled off the shit with emancipating myself, they would scramble to get me back.”

Logan had tugged Sammy closer and kissed him gently. “For what it’s worth, your parents were awful. I don’t know if they would have ever lived up to actually being the caring decent people you deserve in your life.”

Sammy beamed at him, and made himself comfortable, lying down, placing his head in Logan’s lap. “I already have a decent caring person in my life. He’s got a great ass too!”

Logan chuckled. “Wow, here I thought I was the master of deflection in this house.”

“I’m here to challenge you for the top spot, babe.”

Logan leaned low and kissed his temple, smiling when Sammy shimmied and made himself even more comfortable. Morpheus was yawning by the fireplace, chewing every now and then, on a giant bacon-flavored bone Sammy had brought for him from the city.

On the coffee table by the couch were the gifts they had exchanged. Logan had bought Sammy a pair of pink fur lined hiking boots and Sammy had gifted him the entire bibliography of an author Logan had recently discovered and hadn’t been able to stop gushing about. They had each other, and that felt like the best gift Logan could ask for.

CHAPTERELEVEN

Sammy

Sammy had seen the invitation last weekend. It was still on the refrigerator door even though Logan hadn’t said anything about going to the party. He didn’t want to ask about it then, scared Logan would panic and refuse to attend if he still hadn't made up his mind. It was on a Saturday, and Sammy would be there visiting. He also hadn't told Sammy not to come over. He didn't want to assume Logan was ready to start introducing him to people. His situation was, after all, pretty delicate, and Sammy wanted to respect his feelings and his circumstances. He wasn't stupid – this was a small town, Logan had been married, had had a child - people simply thought of him in a certain way, and it was a big deal to suddenly start showing up with a boyfriend.

Boyfriend. He glanced at Logan who was drinking his tea and sneaking some of his bacon to Morpheus. The word“Boyfriend”sounded like... it just wasn't enough to describe who he felt Logan was to him.

But Sammy also refused to sit alone in the house should Logan choose to go without him. He knew it in his bones. Logan was not the type of guy to do something that shitty, but he had been hurt before by men who hit the brakes hard when they realized, they weren't quite ready to be “out”.

They hadn’t had the talk about their relationship status either and all of a sudden, both the conversations were looming over them. Logically he knew his lover had given him no reason to be afraid, and yet, the thought of asking for their relationship to be somewhat more defined made him fear rejection.

Yes, the irony was not spared on him as Sammy was normally one to avoid commitment and to slink away from responsibilities. His last real relationship had been years ago in college. Even now looking back and comparing it to the way he felt about Logan, it was clear to him, Logan was so much dearer and more important to him, than that boyfriend had ever been.

The way he craved Logan's touch, the way his very closeness made him feel at home, those were the things pulling him back to this lovely man every single week. They had been happily floating in their little bubble without a care in the world and he had been refusing to think about what would happen with their romance, once the outside world inevitably came rushing in.

In all honesty, he wanted them both to go to the party. Sammy was curious about Logan's friends and wanted to see him in the company of other people – Dave and Stef, his family, people that mattered to Logan. He wanted Logan to have a good time and be social. Sammy wanted to be there to see his lover smile and laugh. Whatever his plans, he would try and respect them. However, he absolutely needed to know what Logan’s intentions were. Sammy was sure he wouldn’t be able to last one entire week without knowing what would happen next Saturday.

He finished cleaning up the frying pan, then tried his best to casually walk over to the fridge and tapped on the invite, being careful not to get it wet. “Are you going to the party?”

Logan looked up from his drafting pad and just nodded to indicate, yes. He was still chewing, and yeah Sammy was the one stuffing him with food every morning, but like...Just say the words I want to hear!

He tried not to sound on edge or too eager, so he asked, as best as he could emulate a nonchalant tone, “Would you like me to come with you?”

When Logan didn't answer right away, Sammy quickly turned and started on the rest of the dishes. He could feel his face grow hot. His stomach dropped and he braced himself for the worst possible scenario.

“It's okay. I didn't mean like...like we're together. I know you...” He started choking and stopped talking, because if one more word rolled out of his mouth, he was scared he would start crying andfuck that.

Sammy heard the quiet scrape of the chair and closed his eyes, standing there with his hands submerged in the soapy water. Logan wrapped his arms around his waist and kissed his neck nuzzling his face in the crook of his shoulder.

“And what if I want to go, like we are together?” he asked quietly, his warm breath making Sammy’s skin tingle.

Sammy froze, then turned around. “Really?” His brows dipped in worry. “What about...? Do they know that you...?”

Logan just shrugged his shoulders. “Sophy knew. At the time, it didn't matter if anybody else knew.”

“How did she feel about it?”

“She said it made me just a little bit sexier.” Logan blushed and then chuckled.

Sammy grinned. “Is it weird, I think that is the sweetest thing?”

“Not at all. She was a wonderful person.”

Sammy draped his arms around Logan's shoulders and kissed him. “So, no big coming-out party for you?”
