The hours roll by so fast when it is just the two of them. It is amazing and terrifying at the same time. No matter how much Ty worries Rian will get bored spending all his free time with him, Rian always finds something new for them to try.

They’ve gone to a pottery class, to the Museum of Fine Arts, and enjoyed long walks in the gorgeous parklands downtown. Rian can walk and talk for miles without losing a beat. Ty doesn’t need to put any effort into keeping up. He is simply floating by his side deeply satisfied to have Rian all to himself.

They are never further apart physically, yet the distance between them seems to have shrunk to nothing in the last days of his stay. They gravitate toward one another like it isn’t a matter of choice.

Ty has grown bold, taking Rian out to the movies to watch a blockbuster he’s been gushing about for months.Alita Battle Angel.

It’s not like, it’s a date or anything.

Throughout the movie, Rian points things out to him, leaning closer, and whispering in his ear explaining how certain effects have been achieved. His breath caressing Ty’s skin is both exciting and so … weirdly sweet and comforting. Intimate. Not just because he’s a guy Ty happens to be so damn attracted to, but because he trusts Rian to be this close. Because they know each other. Because no matter how fucking big Ty is, the truth is Rian, makes him feel safe.

They go ice skating on a whim after the movies. It is incredible how much they both suck at it. Zero grace. No rhythm or balance at all. They look like two hobbling drunk penguins, laughing their asses off, quickly amassing bruises in various places.

The whole experience is hilarious and painful at the same time. They make it home after dark, soaking wet, freezing, sore, hooting and hollering, recalling every terrible, embarrassing detail. They share a cup of tea, going through the photos from the ice rink. They’ve made the official Facebook page too and the comments under the post are hilarious.

Sigh. Can’t look this good and know how to skate too. Got to suck at something…

Wow. Two words: Gorgeous. Disaster.

“These people are ruthless,” Ty laughs.

“Fuck’em. I had a blast!” Rian declares proudly. He’s drying his hair near the kitchen sink, while boiling fresh a pot of tea.

“You wanna go back?” Ty grins wagging his eyebrows. “Maybe we can strenuously train for like ten months and return triumphantly, showing them who’s boss!”

“Done deal, partner. It’s a date!” Rian laughs, but all Ty can hear is,it’s a date.

It’s a date.

It’s a date.

It’s a date.

Cyril joins them in the kitchen briefly and has a laugh with them, as they tell him about their night, then saunters back to the bedroom. He’s been okay for the last week, but always claims he’s at a really good part of this weird post-apocalyptic show,The 100. He says that he’s trying to binge it before they have to go back overseas.

Once they are alone Rian bites his lower lip, then looks away shyly muttering, “I had a great time tonight.”

“Me too.” Ty is grinning. The best time really.

Rian lingers for a few more seconds, then still smiling murmurs, “Night,” and disappears into the bedroom.

Ty can’t dislodge the smile from his face.

Even as he wakes up the next morning, he’s sure he’s slept grinning like a maniac all night.

Three weeksthin down to four days, then suddenly it is the night before Cyril and Ty have to leave. Cyril goes to bed early but Rian lingers in the kitchen. There is something weirdly comforting about the way they can talk for hours, as well as be in the same space doing their own thing in complete silence without it ever feeling awkward. Companionship. Understanding. Sense of safety and belonging.

Ty glances at Rian every now and then, wondering what it would feel like to come home to him every night.

Rian works quietly until late, then plops on the couch next to Ty and they watch a few series on the tiny television bolted to the ceiling. They have a laugh at the game challenges on the Jimmy Fallon show and reminisce about the Craig Ferguson late-night specials and his weird robot sidekick.

It’s past midnight when Rian suggests they watch the second movie from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“Are you sure? It’s the extended version, it goes on for almost four hours.”

“I’m not tired. Cyril is snoring. I won’t be able to sleep anyway,” he says as he yawns.
