Tayida had been locked in prison.

He had been forgotten.

He had been isolated and denied the right to be heard.

His new lawyer waits for him patiently to say something, but Ty cocks his head to the side encouraging him to continue talking instead. Tayida isn’t saying shit before he knows what this impromptu meeting is about.

“Well,” Phan goes on. “I think I can get you out early.” He pauses. Ty is watching him carefully. “But you need to talk to me. I want to know everything you can tell me about Sebastian Scott and Harris Kelly.”

Ty sighs. “Not happening.”

“I think I can help you, but you need to work with me,” Phan presses on.

Suddenly, Ty shoots to his feet and leans over the table, crushing his fists on the stainless-steel surface. The table rattles and Phan winces but doesn’t move from his seat. He doesn’t look away from Ty nor does he make a move to call for help. Clearly, this isn’t his first rodeo, no matter how young he looks. Ty can respect him for holding his ground, but he won’t let anyone fuck with his mind ever again. He is done playing games.

“You read my file? Did you go through every scrap of the paperwork assigned to my case? Yeah?! How fucking thorough of you! Well, then you are aware I am not supposed to be here! Get me out! Then I’ll talk.” Tayida practically growls in Phan’s face.

To his credit, Christopher doesn’t even flinch. Ty sits back in his chair heavily and pushes the coffee cup away.

Phan quickly gathers his shit and once he is at the door, he says over his shoulder, “You could change a lot of lives if you told your side of the story. There were others who suffered the same fate as Sebastian and Cyril. With your help, we could ––”

Ty shakes his head and chuckles darkly interrupting Phan, “Not interested in pipe dreams. Get me out of here or leave and don’t fucking come back. Let me rot in this shithole, just as I have been for the past four years. We both know you don’t give a shit about me. I bet my ass, you don’t even believe I’m innocent.” It seems this last statement hits the exact right buttons because instead of rushing to reassure him, Phan briefly glances away. Ty sighs, “I didn’t kill Sebastian Scott. Until you believe me, I don’t think there is much we can do to help each other out. I’m done trusting the wrong people. Either you get me out, as you know you fucking should, or we’re done talking. I can’t trust a man who supposedly knows I’m innocent but has no problem using my suffering to leverage information. You’re supposed to be on my side. Do your fucking job or get the fuck out.”

Phan gapes at him, finally lost for words, then leaves the room without further attempts at bargaining.

Ty sags in his seat as soon as the door slams shut.

It’s obvious Phan’s at best on the fence about whether he believes Ty has anything to do with Sebastian’s murder. Hypothetically his new lawyer is there to make things right. Yet an innocent man is rotting in jail and instead of getting him out, he is trying to bargain a deal. Something just doesn’t add up.

Telling Phan to fuck off, is a gamble Tayida isn’t sure he can afford right now. He is hoping Phan is just about desperate enough to give him what he wants.

If Christopher Phan is blowing smoke up his ass, and never comes back…that is a possibility Ty isn’t going to dwell on. He has set his plans in motion and is in the process of arranging his escape.

Tayida has long lost hope that he would ever see justice and is fully convinced, the only way he will ever get out of GODSHANDS is to seek help from people who are most definitely on the other, much shadier side of the law. This isn’t how he had imagined his life would turn out, but there is no chance in hell he will sit there and rot, for God knows how much longer, while Rian is alone out there, dealing with that monster Harris.

Tayida has been sitting on a treasure trove of incriminating evidence and is fully prepared to fuck Harris Kelly up real good.

Perhaps Christopher Phan could be the man to speed things up for him and give Ty a legal way out of this. Either way, Tayida is ready to make a move and get his Ri back.

I won’t fail this time.

I’m going to get you back, Rian.

His nerve-racking gamble pays off.Phan returns two weeks later, informing him, that he would be released in a couple of days. He would have to follow his instructions when he gets out, and a deal is struck. Once he is free and his record cleared of any wrongdoing, Ty would get his chance at testifying against Harris Kelly.

Only Ty isn’t going to do any of that.

He does the song and dance expected of him, and he shakes Phan’s hand, but it is clear to him, he will never trust anyone like that again. The fates seem to be finally working in his favor, and he would be damned to believe the wrong person ever again. What Phan is promising is simply too good to be true.

Not only is it too good to be true, but sad as it is, it isn’t even enough. It is all swell according to the plan his new lawyer is outlining to him, but Ty knows that all of those legal proceedings he is talking him through could take months, if not years.

During that time, the pressure Rian would be under will be tremendous. The worst part is, Ty may not even get to see him while he is testifying or until the trial is over. If they even make it that far.

He hardly contributes to the conversation, besides signing paperwork and confirming verbally that he understands what he’s being told. His head is about to explode with the tension headache that has been crawling up his shoulders and neck all afternoon during the meeting. This is so overwhelming he doesn’t even know if he can talk coherently enough and tell Sullivan about it.

At last, he forces his sluggish mind to focus on what’s really important – he is getting out of there. He is going to get Rian and his son Bran. Whatever it takes to keep them safe, he is ready to pay the price. And soon enough, an opportunity presents itself. A deal with the devil, Tayida has no choice but to accept. Time is running away from him, and he just fucking feels it in his bones, the love of his life needs him.
