“What?” Her mother wasn’t making any sense. She waited for the crew to open the door. Hayden would be outside, waiting for her.

“I just wanted to give you a heads up to check your makeup. There might be some press.”

Press? She was used to cameras. Why was her mother concerned about it right now? That didn’t make any sense. “Okay, Mother.”

“See you soon.” Her mother hung up.

Lana shook her head and chalked it up to the three months she’d been away. Her mother must be anxious to see her again.

After another minute of waiting, the crew secured the stairs and opened the door for her. She stepped out of the plane. Cameras flashed, blinding her. Sheesh, her mother had been right. What was up with all the reporters?

As her eyes adjusted, she saw Hayden at the bottom of the steps, his hand outstretched. She took it and butterflies assaulted her stomach. Even though they had been dating for a year, the thrill of his touch still sent her over the edge. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to get a second chance with him.

Hayden helped her down the stairs and gave her a hug. “I’m so glad you’re back.”

“I’m glad too. What’s with all the press?”

“Someone got wind of this.”

She stared at him, not comprehending. “Of what?”

He knelt down on one knee and pulled out a small, black box. Lana’s heart leapt into her throat.

“Lana, you are amazing. I never thought I would meet a woman like you. I love your caring nature, the way you treat everyone with respect. I love the light in your eyes and the way you wrinkle your nose when you laugh. I love everything about you, and I don’t want to lose you. And even though I’m just a prop guy, I’ll spend the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me.”

Her vision blurred as emotion swelled in her. Reporters and paparazzi flashed their cameras, and Lana noticed for the first time that her mother stood off to the side, a small smile on her lips. Chase was also there, grinning like he’d planned the whole thing. Hayden’s mother was also there, tears in her eyes.

“Will you marry me?” Hayden opened the ring box.

Lana swiped her hand across her face to wipe away the tears. “Yes, I will marry you!” She threw her arms around him.

He stood, holding her tight. “I missed you,” he whispered.

“I missed you, too.” She stood on her toes and gave him a kiss.

“I love you,” he said against her lips.

“Shut up and kiss me,” she said, making him laugh.

“All right,” he said. Then he did as he was told.

The End
