Tavon blinked at Colton like he was seeing things. “Colton?”

“Tavon,” Colton said, nodding at him. He turned back to Remi. “I’m sorry, I feel like I’ve interrupted something.”

“You have,” Tavon said, sounding annoyed.

Remi could barely breathe. Colton had flown all the way to Silver City. He was here, in her apartment. And if she didn’t say something, he was going to leave. “No! You haven’t.”

She shoved the flowers back at Tavon. “Tavon was just leaving.”

“No, I wasn’t.”

Remi grabbed his arm. “Tavon, we’re through. I don’t want to start over.”

“But—”

“Sorry. I don’t want to date. I don’t like pie.” She opened the door. “And I hate bowling!” She shoved him out into the hallway and shut the door.

She took in a deep breath before turning to face Colton. “I can’t believe you came here.”

Colton looked like he was suppressing a smile. “Tavon came to make amends?”

“Yes.”

“And he brought flowers?”

Remi nodded.

Colton ducked his head. “I guess I’m not too original then. I came to make amends as well.” Colton reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small sack marked with the Best Buy logo. “But I didn’t bring flowers. I just brought you this.”

Remi opened the sack and looked inside. Emotion swelled in her throat and tears pricked at her eyes. “You bought me RAM?”

Colton shifted, and his cheeks flushed. “Yeah. I know it’s stupid, but you said—”

“It’s not stupid,” she said quickly, setting it down on the table with her hot cocoa. “It’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.”

Colton was exactly what she needed. He knew her better than anyone. She’d dated Tavon for over two years, and he still didn’t know enough about her to know she didn’t like roses. Or bowling. Colton knew. He paid attention. He cared for her.

Colton drew in a breath. “I’m so sorry I said we were just friends. I lied. You’re so much more to me.”

His words warmed her. She was so glad he said it, but she’d already figured that out herself. “I’m not mad anymore.”

“You’re not?”

“No. I saw what you did for Liz on the television.” She blinked back more tears. “You stood up for her when she needed you. That was really impressive.”

He raised his eyebrows. “Impressive, huh?”

“Yes.” She slid her arms around him.

He pulled her to him. “I’m going to have to wait a bit more before I can break up with Liz now.”

“I know.” Remi laid her head on his chest. “It wouldn’t be very believable to make a speech like that and then break things off.”

“I’m glad you understand.” He kissed the top of her head.

“So, I know this is bad timing and all, but I want to confess something to you.” Remi gathered up her courage and looked Colton in the eyes.

His kind expression gave her courage. “Oh?”
