“Nice. That’s on my list of places to go,” Andrew said. “It’s definitely a good first date location.”

“I’m glad you approve.”

He totally missed my sarcasm.

“I should ask someone out on a date, you know, get back out there. There’s a new physical therapist at work. Maybe I’ll ask her out.”

“In my opinion, work isn’t the best place to meet women. What if she says no? Or she says yes then it doesn’t work out?” I pointed out. “That’s why I never asked Keera out before now.”

“Yeah, but where else am I supposed to meet someone?” he asked. “Stacy and I met in college. Work is the adult equivalent to meeting in school, isn't it?”

“Like I said, it’s just my opinion.”

Andrew and Stacy broke up right after he graduated from medical school. It’s been almost ten years but he talks about her like they broke up a month ago. Then again, the dates he’s had since haven’t gone anywhere, so I guess it’s the only big relationship he has to reference.

“Does Keera have any friends you can set me up with?”

“Even if she does, I’m not sure it’s a good idea right now.”

“Why not?”

“For one thing, Keera and I literally had one date. I have no idea what’s going to happen with us.”

“Maybe after you’re dating a while.”

My mom always says Andrew is a great catch, so I don’t know why he has such a difficult time with women. He’s not socially awkward like Archer and at 6’4”, he’s not height challenged like me. Add in the fact that he’s one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the area, he should be a magnet, but somehow he always either ends up with someone who just wants him because he’s a doctor or he gets friend-zoned.

When I was with Zoe, we set him up with one of her friends. Unfortunately that fizzled out after a few dates. I’m not really up for repeating the experience, but he sounded so hopeful, I couldn’t do anything but agree.

“If that’s settled, can we start watching the show, please?” Archer leaned forward and added a couple dumplings to his plate. “It’s bad enough we’re off our usual Thursday night schedule, do we need to sit here discussing women all night?”

“Sure.”

I picked up the remote again and brought up the app menu, stifling my smile. Shannon always calls my friends and meThe Big Bangcrew and if that’s the case, Archer is our Sheldon. The man schedules everything and deviations from said schedule are not welcome.

Andrew and I push him out of his comfort zone sometimes. He grumbles about it, but hey, the three of us have been friends since grade school and he still hangs around with us so he must not totally hate it.

Since we’re not gaming, he’s really not enjoying himself tonight, but surprisingly, hasn’t complained too much. He didn’t even comment when I ordered kung pao shrimp instead of my usual sweet and sour chicken.

After pressing play onObi-Wan Kenobi, I sat back to watch and dug into my Chinese food, savoring the different flavors. Sometimes it’s nice to do something different or think outside the box. After all, doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

I’ve been stuck in a rut for a while now. My days have become as predictable as Archer’s. But ever since I decided to ask Keera out, it’s like something shifted in me. I don’t want to live aGroundhog Dayexistence, repeating the same day over and over anymore. It’s time to do different things, be spontaneous, and enjoy life.

And hopefully Keera will be part of that.

CHAPTER8

Keera

“Areyou sure I’m dressed okay?”

“You look perfect,” Simon said. “I like the pole studio’s slogan.”

I looked down at my sweatshirt withNo ifs…just good buttsprinted across the chest, then smiled.

“Yeah, we get a lot of compliments on it.”

He’d told me to dress comfortably for our date so I wore leggings and a Peaches & Pole hoodie. He’s wearing jeans and a Star Wars tee, but I still feel like I should have on something nicer. We had a casual dinner at Joyce’s Café and now we’re back in the car heading who knows where.
