I slowed things down when I heard voices. Thankfully they were far enough off and I had enough time to slowly end the kiss. I curled my hand around hers and we walked over to the bench and sat.

She removed her helmet and dragged her fingers through her thick, brown hair and I itched to do the same. Instead, I rested my arm against the back of the bench. We sat in silence for a few minutes as the voices we’d heard got louder. Soon the people approached, then waved as they walked by. Once they were out of sight, I shifted toward Keera.

“So based on the look on your face earlier, I’m guessing you didn’t tell Zoe we’re dating.”

“No, I didn’t.”

“Any reason why?”

“I was so shocked to see her and then we had class.” She seemed to think for a second. “I guess I could have said something after class, but it would have seemed so random to approach her and just bring it up.”

I guess she has a point. But I need to make sure things are clear between us.

“But you’re not opposed to letting her know? Or letting anyone know?”

She looked confused by my questions, but slowly shook her head.

“My family and close friends all know we’re dating. As far as Zoe goes, I think you’d be the one who’d be more concerned about her knowing or not knowing.”

“I wanteveryoneto know. We really haven’t talked about it, but I guess now’s as good a time as any.” I placed my hand over hers and squeezed. “I’m not dating anyone else and don’t want to.”

The corner of her mouth curled up into an adorable smile.

“Simon Parker, are you asking me to go steady?”

“I am.”

“Yes.”

She mouthed the word more than said it and I moved closer, turning my head slightly toward her.

“Sorry, I didn’t quite hear that.”

Placing her hand on my shoulder, Keera shifted forward until her mouth brushed against my ear.

“Yes.”

Her warm breath caressed my skin and goosebumps broke out all over my body.

I turned my head and brushed the tip of my nose against hers before placing a soft kiss on her lips. Pulling back, I tucked a stray hair behind her ear.

“Now that that’s settled, why don’t we head back and grab some lunch?’

“Sounds perfect.”

CHAPTER22

Keera

“Thanks so much,Anjannette. I really appreciate it.”

“There’s nothing to thank me for. You held down the fort while I was traveling during baseball season,” she said. “Just pop some Midol, eat a bunch of chocolate, and relax.”

“Right now I just want to curl into a ball and sleep. But I’m sure chocolate is in my near future,” I said. “I should be okay tomorrow, but if not, I’ll let you know.”

“No worries. I have it all under control. Talk to you later.”

I hung up then turned onto my side, pressed the pillow against my stomach, and let out a loud groan.
