“Yep. I got the last two. There’s also a chocolate with salted caramel icing, white with mocha icing, chocolate chip with white icing, and chocolate with chocolate fudge icing.”

“You are a prince among men, Simon Parker.” She patted the couch next to her. “Sit and help me eat this feast.”

“I didn’t plan on staying. I know you’re not feeling well.”

“Please stay. You always make me feel better.”

How could I say no to that?

“Okay.” I leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Do you need a drink?”

She picked up her tumbler and shook it.

“Yeah, I guess I do,” she said and shifted to stand.

“No, I got it. Just tell me what you want.”

“What I really, really want?”

“You must be feeling at least a little better if you’re quoting the Spice Girls.” I took the tumbler from her. “Water?”

“That sounds good. There’s a filter on the sink.”

“Ice?”

“Yes.”

I went to the kitchen and filled her tumbler and a glass of water for myself.

“Need anything else from in here?”

“Nope, just you.”

When I walked back into the living room, Keera was sitting cross-legged eating fries with gravy.

“Thank you for bringing this. Nothing like fat and sugar to cure what ails you.”

I sat on the couch, shifting to face her.

“AndGilmore Girls.”

“Definitely. Being transported to Stars Hollow always takes my mind off my issues.”

“I think Shannon has watched this series all the way through at least ten times.”

“Same.”

She popped a fry into her mouth then held out the container to me. I shook my head.

“I got this for you.”

“You can’t expect me to eat all of this. A Joyce’s burger alone could feed a family of four.”

“You can always finish it later or tomorrow.”

“Did you eat yet?”

“No, I have leftovers at home.”
