“At this rate, it’ll take me a week to get to the top.”

“You’re doing great.”

She let out a groan and slid down to the floor.

“You and Anjannette make it look so easy,” she said, shaking out her legs and massaging her palms.

“Remember, we’ve been doing this alongtime,” I said. “It took me weeks to do what you just did, and almost two months to climb to the top of the pole. So trust me when I say, you’re doing great.”

“My hands are killing me. I’m done,” she said to Sacha. “I’m going to go get dressed.”

“I want to do a couple more spins,” Sacha said.

Zoe said her goodbyes then walked out of the studio. I followed, hoping to get her alone. Before she entered the dressing room, I called her name.

“Can I talk to you for a second?”

“Sure. What’s up?”

I’ve thought about how to bring this up, but decided the best thing to do is just say it.

“This is kind of a random thing to mention, but I wanted to let you know that Simon and I are dating.”

“Oh wow.” Her eyes widened. “That’s great. How long have you guys been together?”

“About a month. It’s pretty new, but I really like him.”

It’s strange to think it’s been such a short time because I feel like we’ve been together forever.

“Understandable,” she said. “He’s an amazing guy.”

“Yeah, he is.”

“That’s really awesome. I wish you two the best.”

“Thank you. I appreciate that.”

She seemed sincere. I thought this whole exchange was going to be awkward, but it really hasn’t been. Of course, now I have no idea of what else to say. Thankfully Sacha approached so I didn’t have to come up with anything.

Simon

“So you’re tellingme that Shannon is moving home,” Andrew said.

“Apparently.”

“Holy shit.”

He popped a piece of sushi into his mouth and chewed thoughtfully. I don’t have to wonder what he’s thinking. With Shannon living in the same ZIP code as him, he’s wondering if he might have a chance with her.

“Are your parents happy?” Archer asked.

I’m not surprised he asked that. He’s pretty close with his mom and I don’t know what she’d do if he moved away. He didn’t even go away to college.

“Yeah, I guess.”

“Are you both going to be living here?” Andrew asked.

“For a little while. I’m going to start looking for an apartment, or maybe a house, after the holidays and I doubt Shannon will live here long.” I shook my head. “I still can’t believe she’s moving back. So who knows what she’ll do?”
