Keera shifted her eyes between Andrew and Archer.

“Are you guys coming to the recital?”

“I am,” Andrew said.

“I don’t think so.”

She picked up a piece of spicy tuna roll with her chopsticks.

“You’re gonna miss out on the best show of the year,” she said to Archer, then popped it into her mouth.

“I’m not sure I’d be comfortable.”

“It’s just dancing.”

“As time goes on, you’ll realize there’s a lot Archer isn’t comfortable with, but we love him anyway.”

“Well, I hope you decide to come,” Keera said to him. “But if you don’t, at least come out to the after party.”

“Where’s that going to be?” I asked.

“I’m not sure. Last year we went to Poor Richards.”

That led to a discussion of potential places to go. While we listed the pluses and minuses of each spot, we managed to finish the sushi and started to dig into dessert.

“I’ve already had way too many sweets, so I’m going to take off. Thank you for sharing your sushi and allowing me to butt in on your game night.”

Keera stood and started to collect the empty plates.

“Don’t worry about it,” I said. “We’ll clean up.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

“All right then.” She picked up her purse. “I’ll see you guys later. Thanks again. It was fun.”

The guys said goodbye and I walked Keera to the door.

“I’m so glad you came over. It was a nice surprise.”

I wrapped my arms around her and she draped hers over my shoulders.

“It was fun.”

Leaning down, I pressed my mouth against hers but since we have an audience, I kept it short.

“Text me when you get home.”

“Will do.”

She gave me another quick kiss, then stepped back. I opened the door and watched as she walked to the driveway, got into her car, and drove away.

I went back into the kitchen and joined Andrew and Archer at the table.

“These cupcakes are amazing,” Andrew said.

I reached for a Linzer cookie and took a big bite.
