Archer pulled the box closer and perused its contents for longer than I thought was necessary before picking up a chocolate chip cookie.

“Let me know when you’re ordering the tickets for the recital. I might want to go,” he said before taking a bite.

Andrew and I looked at each other, eyes wide. Keera must have really worked her magic on Archer for him to even think about changing his mind. It’s not something that usually happens.

“Will do.”

CHAPTER24

Keera

Anjannetteand I sat on the floor watching Sophie and Eve go through their routine. We’re two weeks away from the recital and have both been staying for all the lessons and practices. Two sets of eyes are always better than one at catching any outstanding issues or potential tweaks.

We both clapped as the song came to an end and the ladies finished their final spins.

“Yaaassss!” Anjannette said.

“You guys look awesome!” I said.

They grabbed drinks and joined us on the floor.

“I’m still not spinning as fast as Sophie, but I’m trying,” Eve said.

“And I keep messing up that one spot,” Sophie added.

“Some of your spins are a little out of sync and a couple transitions need to be smoother, but other than that you look great,” I said.

“Don’t forget that we’re sitting here watching, specifically looking for issues, and you know what you’re supposed to be doing. So if you mess up, it seems like a glaring error. But people just watching the show won’t pick up on any small imperfections in your routine. It really looks great. You did an amazing job putting it together.”

“Thanks to Keera,” Sophie said.

“I just made some suggestions. You guys ran with it.”

We chatted for a few more minutes, then Eve stood.

“Well ladies, as fun as this is, I’m going to head out. It’s been a long week and I’m exhausted.”

“I need to go too,” Sophie said, then bobbed her eyebrows. “I have a hot date.”

We said our goodbyes and Anjannette and I coordinated schedules for the upcoming week.

“I’m so glad we decided to take Sundays off,” I said.

“Me too. I’m looking forward to just chilling with Leo tomorrow,” she said. “You’re meeting Simon’s parents, right?”

“Yeah, they got home last night and his mom invited me over for dinner tomorrow.” I glanced at the clock. “That reminds me. I have to stop at the store on the way home. I’m making cinnamon apple cupcakes with salted caramel icing and I need a few things.”

“Hopefully you’re going to save a couple for your bestie.”

I laughed at the pathetic look she gave me.

“Of course. I’ll bring some in for you on Monday.” I checked myself out in the mirror. “I look like crap. I’m sure I’ll run into everyone I know at the store.”

“You look fine.” She grabbed her bags and swung them over her shoulder.

I know that’s not true but I thanked her anyway.

We locked up and headed out to the parking lot.
