“You’ve been doing great,” Anjannette said.

“I’m just glad I was finally able to climb to the top of that damn pole. Thanks to Keera.”

“Hey, that was all you. The only thing I did was cheer you on.”

“I can’t believe there are only two more classes. It went by so fast.”

“Next class we’re going to give you information on regular class packages,” Anjannette said. “We’re offering some one-time specials if you sign up after the series.”

“One question, do you have to do the beginners’ series to take classes?”

“No, you can just go to a beginner class, but the series helps you learn basic moves and tricks in a certain timeframe,” Keera said. “We change things up in the beginner classes, so there are some things you might not learn immediately.”

“I asked because my cousin might be interested in coming with me.” She looked at me. “Joannie, believe it or not.”

“Does she know that she won’t be able to wear slacks and a silk blouse to class?”

Zoe laughed.

“I showed her pictures of what I’ve been doing in class so she should have a clue.” She shrugged. “I’m not going to discourage her if she wants to come along. It’s so much fun and it’s such a great workout. And you know how much I hate exercise.”

That led to a funny discussion about different things she’s done through the years. Anjannette commented on P90-X, calling it torture. Leo joined in after that, talking about the yoga classes he takes from Clay, the man who owns the building the pole studio is in.

“I thought I was going to die during the first few classes,” he said. “Literally. And now that I’ve been doing it for a year, I still feel that way sometimes.”

“Remember when I took yoga, Simon?” Zoe asked. “I couldn’t move the next day.”

“I totally understand,” Leo said.

As the conversation continued, I looked at Keera, who seemed to be following along, but looked a little pale under the makeup she was still wearing. I put my arm on the back of her chair and leaned closer.

“Are you feeling okay?”

“Yeah, just tired.” She offered a weak smile. “I think it’s just the letdown now that this is all over.”

“Now that it is, you’ll be able to relax a little.” I kissed her forehead. “I know I’m looking forward to seeing you more often.”

“Yeah, both of those things sound great.”

CHAPTER30

Keera

I pickedthe nail polish off my thumb and tried to get my thoughts together. I’ve been thinking about this since Simon dropped me off on Saturday night. It’s three days later and I still don’t know what to say to Dr. Green.

We’ve been here before. There were times when I first started seeing her that we sat in silence for at least part of the hour. Which is really stupid on my part. I can sit quietly anywhere else for free.

Looking up at the ceiling, I took in a deep breath then let it out slowly before finally speaking.

“I’ve told you about my insecurities with Simon when his ex-girlfriend is near.” She nodded, but remained silent, her pen poised over her notebook. “I understand this is ameissue. He hasn’t done anything. So in reality, there’snothingwrong.” I dragged my fingers through my hair and shook my head. “But there is.”

“Have you talked to Simon about this?”

“What am I going to say? I’m projecting my ex-boyfriend’s actions onto you? I’ll sound insane.”

“Maybe he can help alleviate your insecurities. Or help you work through them.”

“I don’t see how talking to him will do anything but make me look ridiculous.”
