‘Oi, my name’s Pippa, not Pip Squeak.’ Pippa scowled before taking Diane’s hand and pulling her towards the bouncy castle as she chased after Harry.
Elsie chuckled. ‘I knew Pippa would get them on.’
‘Daddy, can I go on the bouncy castle too?’
‘Of course you can, Ava.’ Rob smiled as he began picking up the empty trays.
‘Can you come with me?’
‘Aw, I don’t think so. I think they’ll be enough adults on there with Diane and Harry.’ Rob shook his head.
‘I’ll take those, Rob. Off you go, no excuses. Go on, Ava, take your dad on with you.’ Elsie took the trays from Rob’s hands.
‘I can’t persuade you to come too, can I?’ Rob looked across at Carmen and raised his eyebrows.
‘You mean in a ‘well if I have to suffer, so do you’ kind of way?’ She laughed.
Elsie cupped her hands around her mouth again. ‘Pippa, love, come back and drag Carmen on, would you?’
Carmen opened her mouth to protest, closing it again as she realised there was no point.
‘Come on, Carmen. It’ll be super fun. Harry keeps jumping and making us all fall over.’ Pippa slipped her hand into Carmen’s and pulled her towards the bouncy castle.
Laughing, Carmen allowed herself to be led towards it, meeting Rob’s eye as he jumped on.
‘Here, take my hand, I’ll pull you up.’ Holding out his hand, Rob grinned.
‘Thanks.’ As Pippa clambered back onto the bouncy castle, she took hold of Rob’s hand, the familiar warmth and strength of his grip reminding her of times past.
‘Quick, quick. Over here.’ Pippa waved them towards the lefthand wall of the castle. ‘We’ve got to try and jump across to the other side before Harry makes us fall over.’
‘Okay.’ Carmen joined the line against the wall, waiting as Harry got into position in the middle of the castle.
‘On your marks, get set, go!’ Harry called as Pippa, Ava and Diane began running towards the other wall trying to avoid Harry jumping in the middle.
‘I think that means us, too.’ Taking her hand, Rob pulled her away from the wall as the castle shook beneath Harry’s jumps.
