Bandit jumped into the front seat and watched all of the craziness in front of us.

People were all over with buckets of chicken in their hands and happy kids running from bounce house to bounce house.

I snapped Bandit’s leash to his collar and opened the door. He bounded over me and tugged me into the crowded parking lot.

“Easy, Bandit,” I laughed. “You smell the yummy chicken?” The alluring smell of fried chicken wafted in the air, and my mouth watered.

“Missy!” Shelby hollered. She was wearing a long, flowy blue maxi dress with bright yellow flowers all over it with a very handsome Wilder Presley at her side.

She looked amazing, and I looked like, well, possibly homeless. I really hadn’t thought Shelby would get Wilder in one of those hats, so when I had gotten dressed for the day, I went with comfort rather than style. Bright tie-dyed leggings encased my legs with a baggy sweatshirt.

It had taken a minute for those two to get together finally, but now that they had, it was very rare to see the one without the other.

“Where’s your hat?” I asked when I walked up to them.

Wilder frowned and glared at Shelby. “Delete it.”

Shelby rolled her eyes and bumped her shoulder into Wilder. “It’s cute, and I am not deleting it.” She winked at me. “And I already put it on my Instagram, so it can never really be deleted now.”

“Jesus,” Wilder grumbled.

“It’s good publicity, Wilder. You should be all for that since you’re part owner of Chicken Biscuit now.” Shelby wagged her finger at him. “And that’s free publicity.”

“You have thirty-nine followers, Shelby,” he growled. “Everyone who saw that picture is here.”

Shelby rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” She looped her arm through mine and pulled me over to a picnic table.

“You want me to take Bandit?” Wilder asked. “I need to do some mingling, and a handsome dog always gets people’s attention.”

“Oh, uh, sure?” Bandit was my security blanket, but I knew he would have more fun walking around with Wilder than sitting under the picnic table. His nose was pointed in the air, and he was sniffing heavily. “He’ll probably lead you right to the chicken, though,” I laughed.

Wilder grabbed his leash, and Bandit followed him willingly.

“Jeez,” I sighed. “Here I thought I was his favorite, but just the scent of chicken makes him turn.” I sat opposite Shelby and laid my hands on the table.

“I’m glad you came.”

I rolled my eyes. “I don’t know why. There are tons of people here that you know.”

“But none of them are,” Shelby pointed out.

“Where are my dozen biscuits?” I asked. That was the real reason why I was here. Let’s not lie about it.

“Well, I was going to get them, but the oven broke, and I didn’t want to take what was left of the biscuits from paying customers, so we’re going to have to wait until Charlie gets the oven working.”

I hmphed. “How convenient, Shelby.”

She smiled. “I know, right? But, he should have the oven up and running in no time.”

“Dirty,” I muttered. “I should have read you like the back of my book.”

Shelby laughed and shook her head. “Back of your hand, Missy.”

I wrinkled my nose. “I prefer the book, Missy.” I slowly looked around and spotted a small white tent. “Is that where you got your sparkly horn?” I asked.

Shelby giggled. “I asked for a small unicorn, and instead, she gave me a damn horn with ears. I didn’t have the heart to stop her.”

“I mean, it’s cute. A little over the top, but I like it.”
