“So woman, are you ready to talk about Daddy Cash, because I think I’ve waited long enough!”

“Seriously? You just walked in the door. How the hell is that waiting long enough?”

“Yes, I just walked in the door, but I spent the rest of our shift acting like the sparks weren’t flying between the two of you. The sexual tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. Not to mention the way he was checking out your ass when you rushed off earlier. He looked like he was ready to eat you.”

God, it had been so long since a man hadeatenme and done it well. For some reason, Cash seems like he would be able to fully satisfy in that department. And the man has huge hands. I could only imagine how good they would feel sliding over my body with his roughened palms setting my skin on fire.

“Hello, you might want to wipe that drool off before you try arguing with me that there were no sparks flying.” Landon thinks he’s so damn funny waving his hand in front of my face busting me daydreaming about all the dirty things I’d let Cash do to me.

“I am not drooling and there’s no way he was checking out my ass. Sure, he is 100% my type, but he also has a kid. You know I don’t want a relationship right now. I don’t have the time to invest in a guy, let alone his kid. You know me. If there’s a kid involved, I will probably fall even more in love with them than the dad, and I can’t be the one to cause a child that pain when it doesn’t work out. I know how it feels to be left.”

“Penny is adorable, and Cash is sexy as hell, but I can’t even manage my time outside of work as it is. If we started dating, I’d have to cut back at work, and you know that work is the first priority for me.”

“I have things I want to accomplish in my career and I’m not willing to set those goals aside for a man, even one as hot as Cash.”

“Plus, look at this house. You were the one calling my kitchen a death trap. I need to focus my extra time on making this place as dreamy in real life as it is in my head. If I start seeing someone, especially Cash, I’ll never get this house finished.”

“One, you know I think you’re insane that you can’t date someone while fulfilling your work goals. Two, the man is a contractor. Can you imagine all the sexy things he could do while helping you fix this place. I can see him now with no shirt, sawdust clinging to his chest, and his sexy as fuck smirk as he walks past you carrying an obscene amount of wood.”

I can’t help but laugh at how ridiculous Landon is while he fans his face and swipes the sweat from his brow. My mind also can’t help imagining exactly what Landon described followed by Cash dropping the wood, stalking towards me, scooping me up as he presses me against the wall and takes my mouth like a starved man. I can almost feel him grabbing my ass tighter as he thrusts against my aching core. Shaking my head to clear that image, maybe it’s time to go out and find a no-strings- attached fling or even a one-night stand.

“Yes, I’m sure it would be hot as hell watching that man work with his hands and all his tools. You know how much competence can turn me on, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to get involved with Cash. I could seriously see him becoming an addiction and I already think Penny is amazing. It would be a disaster waiting to happen. Although, it really would be nice to have a little help around here. I will admit that it may be a little more work than I can handle now that I have the head nurse position and have more responsibilities at the hospital.”

“I’m so glad you’re finally seeing the light! I actually had a patient give me a business card a little while ago for a good contractor. I’ve been holding on to it because I didn’t think you were quite ready yet to accept some help.” He starts digging around in his pockets and finally grabs his wallet where he pulls out a crumpled business card that’s seen better days.

I wonder how long he’s actually been holding onto this for me. I glance at the card and see the name Fowler and Dalton Contracting and see Reid Dalton. That name sounds vaguely familiar, but I can’t remember from where. Maybe it’s someone my dad knows.

“Thanks, Landon. You’re the best. I’ll give him a call tomorrow.”

“Why wait? Call him now and if he doesn’t answer you can leave a message. Then I know you actually did call and aren’t over here by yourself on your days off slaving away.”

“Alright, but don’t bug me when he doesn’t answer, and I don’t hear…”

“Hi, this is Reid Dalton. How can I help you?”

“Oh, um, yes. Hi. Sorry, I didn’t expect you to answer this late. I just figured I’d get your voicemail and leave a message.” I could hear him chuckling as I bumbled through the conversation. Not a great way to start, but oh well. Doesn’t help that Landon is sitting across from cracking up as I make an ass out of myself. I give him my best glare and flip him off which only makes him laugh hard. Ass!

“No worries. I always have my business phone on me in case there’s someone with an emergency who needs help immediately. Some problems can cause way more damage if they have to wait until the morning.”

“That makes complete sense and is probably great for your business.”

“It definitely doesn’t hurt. So, how can I help you…”

“Oh, shit. I mean crap. I mean, uuugggh. Hi, my name is Chayse Wilson, and I got your card from a friend. I bought an amazing craftsman about a year ago that I’ve been flipping, but due to a promotion at work and the house needing a little more TLC than I originally thought, I finally decided it’s time to call in some reinforcements. Is this something you might be interested in or even have time for? I don’t even know what kind of contracting you do, but this would obviously be residential.” Seeing Landon start laughing again, I know I’m being a rambling fool and immediately shut my mouth. Glad he’s enjoying my floundering.

“Yes, this is definitely in our wheelhouse. Actually, this is right up my partner’s alley. You said it was a craftsman, right? Lots of gorgeous wood?”

“Yes! It’s part of the reason I fell in love with the house. I love all the intricate woodwork that you really don’t see in our area unless you’re in one of those old Victorians, but that isn’t really my style. I like the coziness of my craftsman and love working with wood.” As soon as those words leave my mouth, I know Landon is going to be dying with laughter. Not wanting to see the joy this awful conversation is bringing him, I turn my back to my supposed best friend to continue my conversation.

“I totally understand that. We currently have our whole crew working on a job right now, but we’re getting to the point where I can probably pull a guy or two starting the end of next week at your house as long as the walk through goes well. Is there a day soon where one of us can come over and check it out, see if we can help and get an idea of what exactly you want done?”

“I’m off tomorrow, but I don’t want to take over your Saturday. Plus, I’m not sure how much I’ll be around. But I could meet someone here next Tuesday.”

“Tuesday should work fine for us. How about 10:30? Either I, or CJ, will be over and we can see if this will be a good fit for both of us.”

“That sounds great. As much as I wanted to finish this house on my own like I did the last house, I would actually like to live in it without it looking like a construction zone within this year.”

“Hey, I completely get it. I’m currently living in my own fixer upper. After working on other people’s houses all day, I have little energy to fix my own. I’m coming up on a year and a half, so I totally understand. I’ve got you on the schedule, so one of us will see you next Tuesday!”
