Idon’tknowwho’smore excited to go to Spencer’s dad’s house for the cookout, me or Patrick. I finally convinced her on the phone last night to let me come pick her up early so I could go grocery shopping with her before heading over to her dad’s. She filled me in a little more on what to expect today and admitted that she would most likely be putting me to work to help her cook for everyone if I was going to be there early.

I obviously was fucking pumped that she agreed to let me go shopping, but even more importantly, help her cook for her and her family. I probably spent too much time obsessing after we got off the phone about what I wanted to make. The only thing she told me was that whatever we had needed to go well with my beer.

I couldn’t help but smirk at that remark and work for another compliment from my girl which ended up with her teasing me about not needing to make my ego any worse. But luckily for me, Spencer informed me that none of them have diet restrictions or are very picky, so I have free reign on what I want to make. Even though I could easily take over, I still want to see what my girl would normally cook and go from there for the rest of the food.

I debated about taking Patrick shopping with us, but Olive doesn’t have to leave for the hospital until 2:30 and wanted to spend the day with him. She plans on just dropping him off to us at Spencer’s dad’s house which will give us plenty of time to get the shopping done and cooking started.

I’m pacing my kitchen waiting for the time to go pick up my Sweets when I decide I can’t sit idle anymore. I forgot to bring some beer home last night before I left The Tavern, so heading there and then grabbing coffee should be perfect to kill the time and burn some of my anxious energy.

The fact that I’m anxious at all doesn’t escape me. Even though I’m a little grouchy at work and definitely an introvert, I can be a people person when I want to be. I want her family to like me, and this is the most like my old self I’ve felt in years which means I’m more vulnerable than I’ve let myself be at the same time.

Spencer came in and destroyed so many walls that I resurrected after all the bullshit with Bi and Nick. I didn’t realize how much effort it took to be a standoffish ass who only put in enough effort to get off and get out. I know that sounds fucking awful, but at the time, it was all I could handle, and I was upfront with every woman I started a sexual relationship with.

I snag my keys and regret not being able to head out on my bike, but with the groceries, my truck is the only way to go. I’ve made the drive to the bar so many times that it’s almost as if I am on autopilot and I’m surprised when I pull in because I spaced out the whole way here thinking about Spencer and what we could make today.

I’m not surprised when I walk into the door that leads into our brewing room to see Gage is there even though he has the day off. He’s so engrossed in what he’s doing that he doesn’t even notice I am there and startles when I clap him on the back.

“Fuck, man. You gave me a heart attack. What are you doing here?” I can’t help but laugh at his startled expression.

“I forgot to grab a few six packs last night before I went home. I’m taking them to a cookout at Spencer’s dad’s house today.”

“Holy shit. Who are you and what have you done with my best friend? You’re willingly going to meet her dad and spend the day hanging out with her family?”

“Yep, and I’m actually pretty fucking excited to go meet him and hang out with her sisters. They’re a fucking riot. It’s kind of amazing how different they all are but how close they are.”

“Yeah, I haven’t been around Spencer much, but I’ve met Emerson enough times to know she’s basically sunshine in a bottle and I’ve also seen Chayse level a guy for getting too handsy with one of her friends. Completely opposite but they all mesh so well.”

“Yep, that’s pretty much exactly how those two are. I’m excited to get to know them a little more. I was able to hang out with them for the end of trivia night and they alone were more entertaining than the actual trivia and everything going on around them. It’s interesting to see Spencer around them because the younger two obviously respect her and value her opinion, but they also really pull Spence out of her shell. They don’t let her fade into the background like she tries to.”

“Well, it seems like you are going to have a blast today.”

“I hope so. What about you? Why are you here? If I remember correctly, today is your day off?”

“Eh, I’m heading out to the farm for a little bit to check in with the foreman, but I figured I’d stop and check on that new brew we’ve been working on. I think it’s going to be a pretty popular beer this fall. I mean, pumpkin is all the rage come fall, and this has the perfect blend of spice. I think we finally got it right and will be able to start brewing a large batch whenever our next tank is free.”

“That’s fucking awesome, man. I love brewing beer, but you’ve made this whole process so much easier. I still don’t know what has you running from home and your past, but I’m glad you landed here and I’m ready to hear all about it whenever you’re ready to tell me.”

“Thanks, man. That means a lot. I love brewing beer here and you’re the first friend I’ve had that lets me be but makes me feel a little more like myself. Just give me a little more time, and I think I’ll be ready to tell you about everything soon.”

Gage is messing with his hat which is a tell-tale sign that he’s not really comfortable with this topic, but I truly do want to be there for him and am glad he’s at least thinking about what’s got him hiding behind a wall bigger than the Great Wall of China. I slap him on the back before heading towards the bar so I can go grab a few sixers out of the cooler.

“Alright, I need to go get my lady. Get the fuck out of here, man.”

“Yeah, yeah. Good luck today. I hope you guys have fun and you leave with your balls still intact.”

“Fuck you. And are you inferring that Spencer already has my balls or something else.”

“Eh, with Chayse in the mix, the options of you losing your balls are many.”

We both start laughing and I flip him off as I walk into the bar. It’s not technically open yet, but the doors open at 11, so there are a few people here getting everything ready for hopefully a busy Saturday. I say hi and check with the on-shift manager just to make sure they don’t need anything before grabbing a variety of beers and heading out to get Spencer.

When I pull into her house, I’m greeted with my girl sitting on the front steps waiting for me. It’s still pretty warm considering it’s mid September, which works out for me when Spencer stands and all I can see are her gorgeously toned legs in the sexiest pair of cutoffs I’ve ever seen. She’s got a white lace crop top on, and I’m about two seconds away from throwing her over my shoulder and taking her back into the house so I can bend her over the closest surface and slam my aching cock into her sweet hole.

“Fuuuuck, Sweets. Are you trying to kill me? Hot damn, I just noticed the cowgirl boots. I can’t wait to fuck you with these, and only these, on later tonight.”

Her smile is dazzling, and I can tell she’s pleased with my reaction. If she had any doubts that I wouldn’t want her the minute I saw her, she’s crazy. She’s still standing on the steps and I know if I get any closer to her and her house, we won’t be leaving so I raise a finger and crook it towards her.
