“Yes, I’m surprisingly okay and feeling rather brave tonight so I’m just going to channel my inner Chayse before I lose the nerve and ask what you’re doing later tonight.” I slide my hand down between us and squeeze his throbbing dick. He mutters out a slew of curse words as his forehead lands on my shoulder. I’ve never been this bold in my life, but somehow Maverick makes me feel comfortable enough to ask him for what I want. No, what I need and crave from him.

Maverick grabs my ass as he grinds into me. “Are you sure this is what you want? I don’t do girlfriends or happily ever after, but I promise I will make you feel so fucking good, sweetheart.”

“Yes, Maverick. That’s exactly what I need.”

Before I can say anything else, Maverick steps back and grabs my hand pulling me towards the back entrance that reads employees only. “Thank, fuck. Let’s go.”

Chapter Four

Maverick

I’mhalfdraggingSpencerbehind me as I barge out the back door that is for employees only. We head around the side of the building with Spencer practically jogging to keep up with my fast pace. I make a beeline for my bike but stumble as Spencer plants her feet and stops walking. Please don’t be having second thoughts. I’m so fucking on edge, but if she changes her mind, then I will obviously respect her decision and change of heart. I’m hesitant to turn around, but I know I need to face her.

“Having second thoughts?” Her brows are furrowed and she’s shifting from one foot to another.

“Um, not necessarily. I just need my car because it’s a school day tomorrow and I have to teach…” she starts trailing off and I can see her wheels turning. She said she’s not second guessing, but if I give her too much time to think, I know I’ll end up going home alone.

“That’s not a problem. We can take your car and I can get my bike tomorrow. Do you want me to drive or just give you directions?”

“Um, I think I’ll drive.”

“You didn’t drink too much?”

“No, I swear. I had the one shot when we got here and one and a half beers along with the food. I’m fine.”

“Alright, works for me.” I put my hand on her lower back as we head towards her car, and I slide in. My first impression is that it’s impeccably clean, and that honestly doesn’t surprise me. I know she’s nervous so I figure distracting is going to work best as I direct her towards my house. I place my palm on her leg which makes her jump a little but then she gives me a hesitant smile as I caress her inner thigh.

“So, you said you have to be at school tomorrow. Are you a teacher?”

“Yes! I teach kindergarten at Sparrow Falls Elementary! I absolutely love it. I’ve been there since I graduated from college.”

“That’s awesome. My nephew, Patrick, will be going there next year.”

“Oh, that’s great! Are you close?”

“We are. Unfortunately, my sister’s husband was a navy seal who passed away while on a mission. Pat was only 18 months old I think, so it was really hard for her. She left her house and job that she had at the base and moved back to the city so that I could try and help out. I don’t know how much help I actually was at that time. I was so consumed with my restaurant that I was throwing money at her to help financially, but not necessarily being there for her emotionally as much as she needed.”

“Moving to Sparrow Falls ended up being exactly what we all needed. Cost of living is a hell of a lot cheaper here than it was in the city, so I was able to buy a larger house that has a carriage house instead of a garage. She lives there with my nephew and works at the Sparrow Fall’s ER as a nurse. If she has a night shift then he crashes in his room at my house, but otherwise, we just hang there. She tries paying me rent, but I ended up making a savings account for Pat and just put the money towards that since she insists.”

“That must have been so hard on her, especially since she is young and was in a place I assume she didn’t have much support when everything happened. That’s really sweet of you to help take care of Patrick and start the savings account for him. Where should I park?”

Even though I gave her directions the whole way here, I’m a little surprised to be sitting in my driveway. It’s only about ten minutes from the bar, but that conversation was a hell of a lot more comfortable than I expected it to be. I motion to a spot between my house and the carriage house. I can tell she’s getting anxious, and that’s the last thing I want her to feel. I squeeze her leg again to get her to look at me.

“You want to go in and we can have a drink? I actually have a small brew of a new beer I’m working on. Wanna be one of the first to try it?” Her smile starts out tentative, but she quickly beams at me as I give her my most welcoming smile back.

“Yes, I’d love that. I always get excited when you release a new beer.”

“You do?”

“Absolutely! I honestly haven’t had one that I don’t like.” When I look at her with my eyebrow raised in disbelief, she lets out a sweet giggle. I open my door and make me way around the car to open hers only to find her leaning against it.

“Is that right?” I smirk at her as I grab her hand and head to my back door.

“Okay, I don’t love the IPA, but that’s not because it tastes bad, it’s just not my favorite kind of beer. But, if I had to pick between your IPA and some of the more popular brands out there, I’d choose yours every time.”

“Well damn, if that isn’t the best compliment that I’ve received since starting to mass brew, then I don’t know what is."

The back door leads into my mud/laundry room and the kitchen is on the other side. I head right to the fridge and grab one of my new beers only to turn and see Spencer standing in the doorway with her mouth hanging open taking in my kitchen.
