My dad comes over and claps Mav on the back while my sisters engulf me in a huge hug.

“I’m so happy for you!” Emerson squeals as both Chayse and I laugh.

“I’m happy, but I’m also ready to kick your fiancés ass. He left the proposal out in his ‘win Spencer back’ plan.” Overhearing her grumbling, Mav makes his way over to us.

“Sorry about that, Chayse, but I wanted it to be a surprise for everyone.”

“I suppose it’s okay. You did fucking awesome with the ring, though.”

“Thanks, it was my grandma’s and I thought Spencer would love it.”

“I really do.” I give him a kiss before I hear my sister’s gagging. They start teasing Maverick as my dad pulls me into a hug.

“I couldn’t have picked anyone better than him for you, Spence. You deserve it all. I love you so much.” It’s hard to not cry again, so instead I give him the biggest squeeze.

We all talk for a few minutes before I see the cars starting to arrive for parent pick up. I don’t want to go back in, but Maverick reassures me he’d be waiting to take me home as soon as school was out.

As I make my way into the classroom, my kids all start cheering again and I can’t help but join in with them. They’re excitement about being included in something special for me is the absolute best. The rest of the day is a blur, but I can’t wait to go home to my forever man.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Spencer

Thepastfewmonthshave been absolutely crazy, but in the best possible way. Maverick’s trunk-or-treat proposal was an absolute hit. The kids talked about it for weeks which is super impressive for their age. The town also talked about it for just as long, if not longer.

We took the first few weeks taking things slowly, but we realized quickly how much we wanted to be together and not be going back and forth between houses. It was a no brainer for me that I wanted to move in with Maverick. I loved my house, but his kitchen is literally my dream kitchen.

I wasn’t looking forward to having to sell my house, but Olive told me she was interested in it. It wasn’t far from Maverick’s, and now that she wasn’t working as many night shifts, she wouldn’t be needing his help as much. It worked out perfectly not having to deal with a realtor, and since Maverick wouldn’t let her pay any rent, she had a nice chunk to use as a down payment towards it. She didn't want to do that once he told her it was originally a savings account for Pat, but he was able to talk her into using the money for the down payment in the end.

I was officially all moved into Maverick’s by Thanksgiving which was good since we decided to host everyone. Maverick’s parents surprised them by coming and staying in the carriage house and planned on staying through the new year before heading out on their next adventure. They were enjoying their retirement by traveling the world together. It honestly sounded so dreamy.

I’ve always loved making Thanksgiving dinner, but this year it was even better since I got to make it with Maverick, and we were surrounded by our families. In true Wilson fashion, my sisters showed up at 11:00am bearing booze and desserts. They quickly were followed by my dad. Penny was in heaven getting to play with Patrick and my dad was enjoying being able to watch football with someone other than just Chayse the entire day.

Olive tried helping but quickly claimed that being in the kitchen with Mav and I was making her nauseous. I mean, I don’t blame her for her not wanting to be around us. Maverick has a hard time keeping his hands to himself.

Patrick, and by default Olive, may have walked in once or twice while Maverick and I were partaking in things that are usually done in the bedroom in the kitchen instead. Thankfully, Pat never saw anything, but Olive knew what was going on and I’m pretty sure we’ve scarred her for life.

The day was long, but it was everything I’ve ever wanted when I think about sharing the holidays with my family. Well, almost everything. Maverick knows how much I want to be a mom and has promised that we will make it happen as soon as we can. In fact, we told our family how we decided on a short engagement and that we were going to get married on New Year's Eve.

They all were over the moon excited for us, but they were wondering what the rush was. We reassured them that we weren’t pregnant yet, but we both know that the other is our forever person and neither of us wanted to wait. Plus, I’m far from being high maintenance so it’s not like I needed a year to plan it.

We decided since our relationship started at The Tavern, it was only fitting that we’d be married there. It just so happened to work out in our favor that New Year's Eve fell on a Sunday this year, so the bar wouldn’t be opened until later anyway. It also has plenty of space for the small, intimate wedding we both desired.

Everyone was so excited for us that they were all hands-on deck with anything we needed to make sure we were ready for the big day. Maverick had the food covered, so I made sure I got everything else figured out. We decided we’d leave it up to everyone whether or not they would like to come back to our house to celebrate after we were done at the bar, or head on to do their own thing after.

One of the only things I was worried about was finding a wedding dress on such short notice. Thankfully, the local boutique had plenty of options, and my sisters, Seraphine, and Olive were able to come with me. I found the dreamiest dress with a gorgeous tulle skirt and lace bodice and long, lace sleeves. I can’t wait to see Maverick’s reaction when he sees me wearing it for the first time.

With all of the wedding craziness, Christmas snuck up on us quicker than we were expecting. Maverick and I had a blast decorating the house together for the first time. I loved having Emerson and Chayse over to decorate cookies. It’s a tradition that we’ve done since we were little girls with our mom. I love keeping these traditions alive and can't wait to share them with our children someday.

Christmas morning was one of the best mornings I’ve had in years. Maverick woke me up with his head between my thighs which progressed to one of the best orgasms ever. He followed it up by serving breakfast in bed before we finally got up and exchanged gifts.

We didn’t realize how late it was until the doorbell rang and I could hear Penny anxiously pounding on the door. Mav let them in while I rushed to get ready for the whole Wilson clan to descend on our peace and quiet. Olive and Patrick showed up next and much to our surprise, they had Gage with them. I knew that those two had started a friendship, but it warms my heart knowing that neither of them are alone over Christmas.

The entire day was filled with food, love, and laughter and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Even though Maverick and Olive aren’t extremely close to their parents, they are still very warm and welcoming and fit right in with my family.

The next week was full blown wedding preparations. The girls and I worked on all of the decorations while Maverick spent the week prepping the food. He also surprised me over Christmas and told me him and Gage had been working on a special winter brew that we were going to be able to have first dibs on for our celebration.

The wedding itself will be small with only about 50 people coming. Most of Maverick’s staff will be there along with a few of the local farmers who he’s grown close to throughout the years with his business. I can’t wait to meet Gage’s grandpa. From what he and Maverick have said, he’s quite a hoot.
