I don’t remember that, but I believe her. I was on a lot of painkillers.

“I thought I dreamed the whole thing,” I admit to her. “Maybe that’s why. When I woke up and you were gone, I assumed it was a really good fucking dream.”

“Do you often have wet dreams about me?” she asks, propping her chin on her hand and looking up at me.

“No,” I tell her honestly. “I tried so hard not to think about you like that at all. I didn’t think I’d ever have a shot in hell, so I didn’t let myself fantasize.”

“What a gentleman.” She laughs. “What about now? Do you think you’ll start fantasizing now?”

“I don’t have to,” I tease. “The real thing is better anyway.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-FOUR

One Month Later

Ican’t believe how nervous I am as I knock on the door. My palms are sweaty and my heart races. After everything I’ve gone through, I never expected anything to make me so nervous. Yet here I am, about to have a panic attack from knocking on a door.

It opens. I’m immediately hit by the smell of hairspray. Then someone starts shrieking.

“Oh my God, Meredith!” Evanesce screams, getting up and pulling me into a huge hug. Abigail and Tory react similarly. Soon we’re in a tight circle, embracing.

“Nesce, you look stunning,” I tell her, taking in the sight of her gorgeous white dress. It hangs off her shoulders and fans out from her waist. It’s simple with small lace and bead accents scattered throughout. She’s a vision.

“Thank you!” she squeals, taking a look at herself in a full-length mirror. She picks up a glass of champagne and takes a large swig before double-checking her hair. She’s utter perfection. I look over to Abigail who’s literally about to pop out a baby.

“How the hell are you standing?” I ask her “Aren’t you having a kid like… tomorrow?”

She smiles and rolls her eyes. “Well, someone messed up my due date,” she says, giving me a significant look. I immediately think of Graveyard.

Of course, there aren’t many moments throughout the day when I’m not thinking about him.

“I still have six weeks, unfortunately. So you just stay in there, okay?” she says to her large belly.

“We’re so glad you’re here,” Tory tells me in a sweet tone. “Have you seen Charlie yet? You won’t believe how much she’s grown!”

“I was hoping she’d be in here. Isn’t she a junior bridesmaid?”

“I believe she’s helping Daisy with her flower girl duties.” Abigail laughs. “My poor, sweet daughter had the hardest time figuring out how to walk in a straight line and throw out flowers.”

“It’s a hard job!” Evanesce defends her niece. “I could barely walk and chew gum when I was a teenager. I’m proud of how well she’s doing.”

“Well, remember that when you’re waiting twenty minutes to make your grand entrance.” Abigail laughs again, rubbing her stomach.

“She’ll do great,” I tell them, beaming.

I was so afraid they’d be mad at me when they saw me. Graveyard told them he was bringing me as his date, but I haven’t seen any of them since that awful night I decided to leave. I’d come to make amends before the wedding, but that isn’t necessary.

I hear the sound of music starting, and that’s my cue to leave.

“Congratulations,” I tell Evanesce again. “I can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle.”

“I’ll be the one in white,” she jokes as I leave the room.

I find my way back into the small chapel and take my place next to Graveyard. He drapes his arm around me and pulls me against him. I turn my head and place a sweet kiss on his cheek.

“I take it the reunion went well,” he murmurs, beaming down at me.

“It was the best reunion yet,” I tease, making him growl.
