He didn’t exactly mention anything about bonding, but I’d already noticed he was in love, so it wasn’t as much of a surprise to me when they’d come out of Nico’s room, newly bonded and freshly fucked. I’m jealous he can feel exactly how she feels about him, knowing for sure that she wants him, but I am genuinely happy for them.

“Hey, why don’t you ask Rip to go with you? She can meet your parents, so your mom will stop pestering me for pictures of her.”

He says it affectionately, but I know Mom has been blowing his phone up, interrogating him for information on Ripley. She’s been hitting us all up for the details since River let it slip out due to his excitement texting Ripley that first week. She’s been following up ever since, like a drama junkie in need of her daily soap opera fix. Nosy woman.

“You’ll get some alone time together,” he singsongs. “It’s perfect, and you’re welcome! I’ll take a kiss before you go ask her.”

It’s not a... terrible idea, I suppose. I really would love the alone time with her, and she can help keep me calm and collected while dealing with my sister.

It’s not that we hate each other, but we both have differing opinions on pack life and a multitude of other things, so we don’t always see eye to eye when we’re together. That’s why I was really glad the guys were all coming with me. Until they started dipping out one by one with excuse after excuse. Fuckers.

Nico said he has a client booked that he apparently didn’t know about until a few days ago. Yeah, right. He’s more anal about his appointment books than I am about my monster books. I firmly believe he’s full of shit.

Knight said he had some work he needed to get done on one of his games. That one I’m not sure on whether it’s true or not. He can be a bit of a workaholic when he starts something new, but I’ve been distracted, so I’m not sure if he actually has started something new or not.

Kian said he had a client consultation for a wedding, which also could be true with how busy he’s been lately. River’s excuse is the only one I know for sure is true because I’d listened to him complain about how little time he has to finish it just yesterday.

Personally, I think they’re all full of shit, minus River, and bailing on me for Ripley. Because, funnily enough, once she moved in, that’s when, one by one, they came to me to give me their excuses for why they couldn’t go with me. Not that I can blame them. I’d bail on myself for her. However, if they were smart, they’d have realized that obviously she would go with us. Once they started dipping out, I just didn’t think to ask her, figuring she’d probably rather stay here with everyone else.

Pushing the bag I was haphazardly packing to the side, I crawl to the top of the bed where River has been lounging and straddle his hips. His hands go straight for my ass, palming each cheek and giving a squeeze.

“How about this, my sweet boy?” I purr against his lips, my tongue lashing out and licking the seam. “If she says yes, I’ll forgive you for ditching me, and I’ll reward you.”

“I’m liking the sound of this. What kind of reward are we talking about, Alpha?” he purrs back, eyes glimmering in the low light.

“None of your business until it is. But,” I say, then pause. “If she says no... Instead of a reward, you’re getting a punishment, also none of your business until it is, for ditching me. How’s that sound, baby?”

I rub my lips back and forth against his, with a hand clenched behind his head in his hair. River’s scent gets stronger, and I inhale deeply before pressing my lips to his. Just a quick, sweet kiss. When I pull back, he licks his lips and grins lopsidedly at me.

“Deal, Butterfly. I can’t wait to see what my reward is!” He’s so sure she’ll say yes, he’s not even worried about punishment.

I roll my eyes at him, chuckling as I climb off his lap and finish packing my bag. It’s an early flight tomorrow and I also may have procrastinated as well when it came to the things I needed to get done.

Coming home every day after work to both omegas was a treat. Double the kisses and cuddly loving. I loved it. Now I just need that voice to take a hike. This trip with Ripley, if she agrees, could help with that.

“Where is Ripley?” I ask, none too subtly.

The prospect of a few days away with just us two has me slightly excited despite the voice telling me she’ll say no.

River smirks, getting up and heading out the door. “Her room.” He calls out behind himself as he leaves, hopefully to get started on that commission.

I leave my bag and head to the room at the end of the hallway that we gave to Ripley. It’s not too big or too small and should feel cozy when she’s in it. She’s only slept in there a handful of nights since she moved in, instead choosing to move around between each of our rooms or the nest with one of us most nights. I loved the nights that she crawled into the bed with me, and I got to curl around her. Or when both she and River crawled in, sandwiching me between them. I got the best night’s sleep the couple of times they curled against me.

Knocking on the door, I wait for her to call me to come in before opening it. When I do, I find her sitting in the middle of her bed; boxes littered all around the floor and on her bed, some opened and spilling over, others not. She smiles brightly when she sees it’s me and jumps up, nearly tripping over the clutter to stand up and get to me. Her hair is a mess around her face, wild and untamed like she’s been running her hands through it and pulling, but still so beautiful.

She grips my hand and helps lead me through a pathway she’s made through the bags and boxes of her things. I’d assumed she’d gotten farther along with getting her room into order since it’s been a few weeks, but I suppose she really hasn’t been in here much, either. When we sit on the bed, she doesn’t let go of my hand, placing our clasped hands in her lap instead and watching me.

“Sorry for the mess. I hate unpacking more than packing, and I really haven’t been in here much. I swear I’m going to get to it, eventually. It’s just kind of overwhelming. Daunting.” She sighs, looking around at the mess.

“Why haven’t you asked for help?”

She shrugs. “I don’t know. You all are busy enough as it is without adding helping me get my clutter in order. Besides, River’s kept me distracted, so I honestly haven’t thought about it. I never sleep in here, so it’s easy to forget about it.”

“Hmm.”

If she goes with me, maybe I can talk the guys into putting everything away for her. Kian helped her pack, so I’m sure he can remember how she liked her things. That way, when she comes home, it’s not something she has to worry about.

“Would you like to go somewhere with me, Baby Girl? Just me and you?” I finally ask her, nerves making me nearly squirm under her stare.
