Ripley gives me an eager smile, bouncing excitedly on the bed. “Yes! Where are we going?”

No hesitation. Just enthusiasm. I like that. And River is going to like his reward. He’d have been salty for days over his punishment.

“I’ve got to go to my parent’s. My sister is having another baby, and they need someone to help watch her kids while they’re all at the hospital. She doesn’t live there but was visiting a few months ago when she started going into preterm labor, so they’ve been stuck in our hometown until she delivers the baby. She’s scheduled for a C-section in a few days. We’ll stay in a hotel but spend the day at my parents’ when she goes in, watching the kids until someone gets home. My mom missed out on my nieces’ births, so she wants to be there for this one now that she has the chance.”

“Why just us, though?” she asks curiously.

“The others were supposed to go, but one by one, dipped out on me.” I raise a brow. “Coincidentally, right after you moved in. They’re not very clever. And wouldn’t you know it, you going with me means they ditched out on going for no reason. Just a little payback.” I chuckle at her snort.

“I’d love to go. When do we leave?”

“Bright and early in the morning. Seven a.m. sharp. Our flight’s at eight.”

She groans and whines, “Why so early?”

“To get checked in to our hotel in time. No way am I missing check-in. Personally, I don’t want to be under my mother and father’s roof when I’m getting alone time with you, Baby Girl.” I purr out, leaning forward until our noses touch.

A shiver runs down her spine as my breasts brush against hers, our lips nearly touching.

“No, you’re right. We don’t need to miss check-in,” she whispers against my lips before closing the distance and pressing hers against mine.

We moan simultaneously, and my eyes close, my hands cupping her neck and my thumbs rubbing back and forth. Her lips are so soft against mine, so delicious. I stroke my tongue against hers, kissing her slowly as we lay back, our lips fused together.

I feel like a teenager again as we lay there on her bed and make out. We don’t do anything more than kiss, but it makes me feel wanted in a way sex never will. It makes me realize there’s a connection there between us that’s about more than just the sex.

We must lay there for a good hour, saying nothing with words but everything with our lips and soft touches over the clothes. There’s nothing sexual about the touches, just exploratory. It’s perfect.

A knock at the door a while later breaks us apart so she can call out. I stay where I am, just staring at her as I hear River enter the room.

“Gods, Little Bird. I told you I’d help you get this room in order.”

I sit up and push a few boxes off the bed to lean against the headboard. Ripley crawls up, making herself comfortable between my legs as she leans her back against my front. I wrap my arms around her and nuzzle into her neck.

“I’m gonna do it, I swear!” She exclaims, and River gives her a pointed look.

“Uh-huh. Anyway, I’ve come to tell you to get ready. Kian and I are taking you on a date! He doesn’t know it yet, but he will.”

Ripley laughs. “River, you can’t trick Kian into going on a date with me. Don’t push him. He’ll get there. I’ve gotten a kiss. And a nickname! Plus, we’ve got that whole thing going where I call him ridiculous pet names, and he acts like he doesn’t like it, even though he totally does.”

“Ugh, fine. I’ll let you two continue at your snail’s pace, even though it’s driving me nuts. Spoilsport. Regardless, I assume you’re going with Syn, so date night with me and you before I have to be without you for a few days?” He gives her his best puppy dog eyes, staring at her pleadingly.

“Deal. Give me two hours. I want to pack my bag, so I’m not up all night.”

“Perfect!” He bounces over to where we are as best as possible, bending low and kissing her breathless.

Once she’s thoroughly been kissed, he moves his face a little to the left and kisses me breathless as well. Well, damn. He’s as thrilled as can be about this date night with the two of them. I love that.

“Alpha, I’ll await my reward for when we get back tonight!” He tells me huskily before bouncing back out of the room, the door shutting loudly behind him.

“What the heck is he getting a reward for?” Ripley asks petulantly once he’s gone.

I chuckle. “I told him if you said yes to going with me, I’d reward him and forgive him for ditching me.”

“I feel like I should be the one getting rewarded for going,” she mutters lowly.

“Oh, don’t worry, Baby Girl. You will be. Both of you are included in this little reward,” I whisper, my lips touching the shell of her ear.

“Well, now I’m intrigued.”
