I picked up the card and read off the answers, smiling when I knew the right one. Ophelia had played it for me the night we came up with all these questions, and we both agreed it was them to a T.

“I know it, I know it!” Madeline came up behind Milo, tossing her arms around his shoulders. “Civil War.”

Milo laughed and turned his head to give her a small kiss. “For the sake of the game, yes.”

She smiled against his lips. “I love you. I can’t wait to marry you.”

“I love you more,” he whispered, kissing her again.

I wanted—needed—to tell Ophelia those words. I had never stopped loving her. It didn't matter what was blocking her tonight. Whatever it was, I would push through it and make it work. Make us work. I just had to tell her those three little words.

Chapter Thirty-Four

-Ophelia-

Once Madeline had convinced Milo’s co-worker to tell her what his favorite Marvel movie was, she vanished, and Jamie and I floated over to the bar. More people had come than we thought, but thankfully, the waffle truck had brought plenty of extras, and the Piano Bar was staffed with bartenders, making getting drinks even more possible. Tonight was turning into a blast, even if I still had to talk to Clay.

JoAnn’s phone call made my heart rate pick up, sending over final flight details for Carter and me. I peeked over at Clay during the call, noticing his eyes heavy on me. He gave me a smirk, making me give him a wave and a smile. Just having his eyes on me gave me confidence. But now that the phone call was over and the news still had to be told, nerves began to set in.

He wouldn’t be mad, would he?

Jamie ordered two mango-ritas for us and we both sat down at the bar, Jamie instantly bringing her drink to her lips.

“Mmm,” she hummed. “I love this drink.”

I giggled at her and took a sip. “Looks like Elliot’s starting to set up.” I twisted my body and eyed the stage. Elliot had taken off his suit jacket and was helping his band members plug in the numerous guitars and microphones they had.

Jamie gave me an eye, a stink eye possibly, and then turned to look at Elliot. “You’re the second one to mention Elliot tonight.”

“What?” I raised a single eyebrow at her, setting my margarita down. “I just said he was setting up.”

“Apparently, people think we would make a good match.”

I pursed my lips into a smile. “You don’t think so?”

She looked at Elliot, her eyes following her every move. “No, no, I really don't. I don’t want to date someone who wants to be famous.”

I lifted my glass, took another sip, and bounced my eyebrows. “Don’t table anything yet, my dear friend. I have it on good authority he’s interested.”

“He doesn't act interested.”

“He’s just nervous. I remember when Clay first asked me out. He was shaking and stumbling over his words. He was worried he was too nerdy to date me, but look at us now.” I glanced over at Clay, who laughed as he and Milo held a conversation.

“Too nerdy to date you? That man is not nerdy at all.”

“In college he was, still kinda is, but I love it.”

It? Orhim.

I sighed, taking a longer pull of my drink.

“Hey, everyone,” Elliot’s voice rang through the room, the music coming to a stop. “I hope everyone is enjoying their night, celebrating Milo and Madeline. If anyone doesn’t know, I’m Elliot Whittaker, and I’m their wedding singer.” He laughed at himself and rubbed the back of his neck, situating his guitar strap on his shoulder. “Does anyone else instantly think of Adam Sandler when they hear those words? Just me? Awesome.” He laughed again, turning away from the mic, seeming to hate his own joke.

I rubbed Jamie on the shoulder and stood. “After he sings, you should ask him to dance. I’m sure he’d love it.” I wiggled my eyebrows at her. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to drag Clay on that dance floor.”

Jamie laughed. “It’s not dragging if he wants to dance with you. Have you seen the way he’s been looking at you all night?”

“Oh, I have.” I grinned. I walked over to the table where Clay was still talking to Milo, which seemed longer than it was moments before.
