“If that’s something you want to explore?” He tilts his head to the side, looking at me. “We’ll get away from here. Go where no one knows us.” His eyes shine with excitement.

“Where do you have in mind?” My curiosity is piqued.

“How about Las Vegas?”

I hesitate for a moment, but what a perfect place to forge new beginnings. Sin City sounds perfect.

“I can’t say no to that.” My heart flutters with excitement.

“Great. Las Vegas it is.” He rocks back, pleased with himself.

“When do you want to go?” My anticipation builds by the second.

“Now.” Alec grins and looks at me with a seriousness I haven’t seen in him before.

My eyebrows raise in surprise. “Now?”

He nods slowly, his gaze never leaving mine. “We’ve wasted enough time already, don’t you think? Let’s not wait any longer.” His voice is low and full of conviction, sending sparks down my spine as he reaches out to take my hand in his.

“Okay.” I’m entranced by the idea of grabbing life by the horns and running away with him.

“Let’s get ready then, but first…” He lifts me out of his lap and lays me on the floor.

Over the next few hours, I find myself infinitely grateful for the soundproofing I put into the meditation room. My screams of pleasure are enough to rock the foundations of the townhouse as Alec shows me exactly what it means to belong to him.

“Go pack your bags.” Thoroughly exhausted from the best sex of my life, Alex gives a light swat to my ass as we get dressed.

I can’t believe we’re really doing this—packing our bags and getting ready for a spontaneous trip. My heart flutters wildly as I rush around throwing clothes into a small duffel bag.

Soon enough I’m packed up and ready to go. Eager to start our new adventure together. Alec takes my hand in his as we make our way down the stairs and toward his Jeep parked outside.

It’s impossible to contain the excitement building in my chest as we pull away from the curb and make our way down the open road; just two people, no work or worries standing between us.

But then, worry creeps in.

When things seem too good to be true, they usually are.

EIGHTEEN

Alec

The Las Vegas Stripis alive with a mesmerizing display of lights, sound, and the energy of the crowded streets. It never fails to captivate. My anticipation grows as we approach our destination. Barbi sits beside me in my Jeep, full of cautious excitement.

During the drive, we traded off stories of our youth, getting to know each other on a deeper level. I can’t wait to see where the next few days take us.

My goal is to get her away from her townhouse, so we can spend quality time together. So far, it’s a complete success. We’re spending time outside of sex, exploring whether the fragile emotional connection we’re trying to build will last.

For other couples, the getting to know each other part is usually the first step in a relationship. Leave it to us to do things backward.

Barbi lets out a soft laugh as I recount a particularly embarrassing moment from my teenage years.

“You really wore a fedora to your high school prom?” she asks, still giggling.

“Hey, I thought I looked pretty cool, but looking back, I was clearly trying too hard.”

“But I thought you were a stud in high school, plowing your way through all those nubile bodies?”

I chuckle at her comment, shaking my head in amusement. “Yeah, I guess I did have a bit of a reputation. But the truth is, I was just trying to live up to this image of what I thought a ‘popular’ guy was supposed to be.”
