“Wow,” Eve’s eyes flutter. “He sounds dreamier than I expected.”

He is! He is!I want to scream like a giddy little girl, but I refrain.

I shrug instead. “He’s nice. I suppose it won’t be the worst trip to Hawaii with him.”

Eve snatches a couch pillow and smacks me against the head.

“What was that for?” I rub the side of my face with a frown.

“For lying to your Ma.” She points an accusatory finger at me. “You forget I know you like the back of my hand, Kit Kat. You like him.”

“He’s a nice guy. We have a deal that benefits the both of us. End of story.”

Tommy yawns. “Whatever you do, don’t plan your wedding around the same time as Lauren and me. She will literally go full blown bridezilla on your ass.”

“Wait a second,” I lift a hand in protest. “Did you finally propose to Lauren?”

“No.” He shakes his head. “You think that’s how I’d tell you?”

“I would hope not.” I snort.

“I have the ring though.” He smiles through his sleepy eyes.

Eve and I scream and run over to hug him in dog pile fashion.

“I am so happy for you!” I kiss his forehead.

“I get your room when you move out!” Eve pats his belly with a grin.

“When are you going to propose?” I ask.

“At the New Year’s Eve party.” He smiles; he has clearly thought long and hard about this. “She loves the holidays, and when it comes time to ring in the new year, I’ll be on one knee asking her to become -”

“Mrs. Tommy Thai.” Eve pokes him.

“It has a nice ring to it.” I agree.

“I hate you both.” Tommy shakes his head. “Well, if you don’t mind, I’m going to bed. And you both should too. Early morning flights all around.”

“Sweet dreams,” I hop up and disappear to my room before Eve can ask me anymore questions.

Theo’s face flashes in my mind and suddenly, I am excited for Taco Tuesday. Not just because I’ll be stuffing my face with my favorite food. But because this time, I won’t be stuffing my face alone.

Chapter Five

Theo: We still on for tacos tonight?

Cate: Absolutely! Do you know the red food truck that sits on Main Street?

Theo: Taco-Dirty-To-Me?

Cate: Yes!! Have you eaten their tacos??

Theo: I told you I eat tacos at least three times a week. Where do you think I get them?

Cate: Best fake boyfriend ever! I’ll meet you there at 6pm.

Theo: See you then, Catalina.
