I don’t even want to come up for a quick breath. I am soaking every inch of him up and I know by the way his hands are firmly holding me in place, that he is not interested in letting me go.

Theo’s lips are soft, inviting, tempting. I run my fingertips up and down his arms, melting at the feel of each and every lean muscle of his body. I feel him shiver and reach for his shirt, ripping it over his head before I lose my nerve. My hands stroke his perfectly chiseled abs and chest and now I’m fully under his spell.

His lips pull from my mouth, and I am afraid he’s going to stop but he plants an open mouth kiss to my neck, just below my ear. I shudder, goosebumps rippling over my skin.

Theo’s hands reach down to my hips, and he carefully lifts me up and lays me on my back. His mouth is still attentive to my neck, and I pull his hair, feeling the weight of him on top of me.

He kisses my lips again gently, and he pulls back. I open my eyes and he is staring down at me, a hunger in his hazy gaze.

“What’s wrong?” I ask. My heart is beating against my chest so ferociously I am terrified it will rip out of my body and run away.

“I like you.” Theo’s green eyes shift back and forth between my brown ones. “I really like you.”

I stroke his jawline, and he kisses my palm when it reaches his lips. “I like you, too,” I whisper.

Theo runs a finger up my neck, settling behind my ear. “Catalina, I want -”

There is a sudden knock on the door of our suite and we both turn our heads that direction. I am hoping whoever it is will go away, but they don’t. The knocking persists relentlessly and then we hear Athena’s voice on the other side.

“Theo, it’s your Mama. How is Cate? I brought her some Gatorade and some aspirin.” She knocks again, loudly. “Theo? Are you listening to me? It’s your Mama.”

His green eyes return to me, and he sighs. “I’m sorry.”

I shake my head. “It’s ok.”

“If I don’t let her in, she will just go down to the front desk and bring a team up to make sure we’re alive.”

I stifle a laugh. “Then maybe you should answer it.”

Theo leans down and kisses my forehead before he jumps off the bed, slips his shirt back on, and makes his way to the door.

I resituate myself on the bed, making sure I don’t look like I’ve just been ravaged, and smile as she stomps into the suite.

“Why do you make your Mama wait outside the door?” She fusses at Theo, passing him by, beelining for me. “He had me thinking I was knocking on the wrong door.” She shakes her head and cups my jaw in her hands. “How are you, Cate, darling? We were so worried when you passed out. I wanted to take you to the hospital, but Theo said you just needed to rest. That he would watch over you.”

Athena whips her head toward her son who is leaning lazily against the door frame. “Tell me you’ve been taking care of your girlfriend with more passion than you answer doors.”

A naughty smile stretches across his face, his green eyes on me. “I think I’ve been satisfying her.”

I smirk and shake my head. My skin is still hot from his fingers and lips touching me.

“I would hope so,” Athena narrows her eyes, waving a hand his direction. “Why do you look like that? Looks like you’ve been rolling around on the ground.”

Theo strokes his fingers through his hair, fixing what I messed up. “I suppose that happened when I fell asleep on the couch.” He lies.

“You fell asleep when you were supposed to be watching over your girlfriend?” Athena’s jaw nearly hits the floor. She releases me from her grasp and points a finger at Theo and plants her free hand on her wide hip. “Théoden Benjamin Bennett. I would have thought I raised you better than this. Cate passes out from heat stroke, and you fall asleep when you swore to me you would keep an eye on her. Next time,” she whips back around to me, her hands clasped to her heart, “I will stay and watch over you myself, Cate, darling.”

“Theo did wonderfully watching over me, I promise,” I reach for her hands and squeeze them. “I am feeling much better now.”

My eyes drift past Athena’s shoulder to Theo who is beaming, his hands buried in his pockets, still relaxing his body against the door.

Athena squints her eyes, not sure if she believes me or not. “Well, as long as you are alright.”

“I am, I promise.”

“Drink the Gatorade I brought you and take two aspirin. Dinner is at seven o’clock.” Athena kisses both of my cheeks before walking back toward Theo and kissing him too. She pats his face and lets herself out of our room.

Neither of us moves. We stare at one another in silence for what seems like a lifetime.
