As he lay there, weeks passing by, Eirsen's thoughts were consumed by her- Astraea. The dark-haired beauty who had captivated his heart from the moment he laid eyes on her. He thought of her every waking moment, his heart aching to be near her once again. He remembered the day she disappeared, leaving him to face Ezra's wrath alone, and he regretted how he had left her. He wanted nothing more than to rectify his mistakes, to be near her, and to keep her safe.

The Haruspex’s words lingered in his mind as he left her home. He would protect her, as was his duty. Keep her safe from the harm he knew would come one day. Even now as the days flooded by he could sense the change in the wind. Could feel it in his bones. They were running out of time.

For several months, he had traveled between the realms. Crossing into the Mortal Lands with the magic he had gained. With the sacrifices he gave to the Immortal Gods. He’d been freed of Ezra’s hold over him, his deal broken but he knew that this was not the end.

The sun warmed Eirsen's feathers as he perched on a nearby branch, his inky black feathers standing out starkly against the bright foliage. His gaze shifted, catching sight of her as she weaved her way through the rows of plants- humming a tune to herself as she went about her day. One he knew well. Eirsen's heart swelled with love and longing as he watched her, his eyes fixed on her every move. The gracefulness at which she moved, her scent drifting on the air currents. The sweet smell of chamomile and bergamot. With the underlying tone of vanilla and that sweet scent of spice.

But there was something else there, something he couldn’t quite make out. He couldn't quite decipher what it was, but he felt something. A thread of ancient magic, a connection that seemed to tether him to her. It was an electrifying sensation, one that stirred a deep sense of protectiveness within him. He knew without a doubt that he would do whatever it takes to ensure her safety.

The leaves from the trees blew down raining on her in a cascade of reds, oranges, and yellows as autumn descended on the Mortal Lands. For a moment, his heart sputtered in his chest as Astraea looked up, her attention caught by his presence. He spread his wings and lets out a loudkraabefore taking off from the branch- soaring up into the clear blue sky. He felt a sense of freedom and exhilaration as he flew higher and higher, the wind whipping through his feathers.

Eirsen felt a sense of peace wash over him. He knew that there was much work to be done, but for now, he was content just to watch over her from afar, knowing that she was safe and that they would be reunited again soon. With a final glance back at her, he flew off into the distance, his heart filled with hope and determination.

Until next time, Princess.
