Landry shook her head. “Uh, not exactly.”

I cocked my head as I stepped a little closer to invade her personal space. “What are you doing here, then?”

Finally, looking up at me, she said, “I’m here for dessert.”

“Dessert?”

Like she was divulging government secrets, she leaned in closer, then whispered, “Cole’s sister is the hostess here-”

“Cole?”

“Cole Butler,” she huffed, obviously annoyed with me. “He’s the one that audited Grandland’s maintenance records.”

“Oh, yeah…him.” While I usually didn’t forget someone’s name like that, I could admit that my mind had been focused on Landry during the audit, and not her coworkers.

Landry rolled her eyes, and I almost laughed. “Anyways, they have a really good strawberry cream pie here that I have a bit of a weakness for. Whenever Brea’s working, she’ll shoot me a text to see if I’d like a piece to go.”

“Well, that’s nice of her,” I replied, my lips twitching at how fucking intriguing this woman was.

“Yeah,” she agreed on a sigh. “Brea’s great.”

I glanced around the restaurant before looking back at her. “Have you had dinner yet, or are you just going straight for dessert?”

“I ate earlier,” she answered as she shrugged. “I wanted to make sure to catch Brea during her shift. I mean, the pie is really, really, really good.”

“Feel like sharing?”

Landry gasped like an offended spinster. “Dude, I work for a living. Do you have any idea how much it costs to eat in this place? The dessert prices are no different.” Before I could comment, her face turned bright red as she muttered, “You’re stupid, Landry.”

“Why are you stupid?” I asked, trying not to laugh at her obvious discomfort.

She shot me a look. “Well, since you’re here, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you know exactly what it costs to eat in a place like this,” she drawled out sarcastically. “However, since you have more money than a small country, I doubt that you even bother to look at the prices on the menu.” She looked around the restaurant. “Hell, do they evenhavethe prices on the menus?”

Instead of answering her, I asked, “Is wealth an issue for you?”

That blue gaze of hers looked me right in the eyes as she said, “Tall, rich, powerful CEOs with dark brown hair, green eyes, and a great body are an issue for me.”

I bit my lower lip before asking, “Do you know a lot of tall, rich, powerful CEOs with dark brown hair, green eyes, and great bodies?”

“Looks likeoneis all I need to know,” she harrumphed before crossing her arms over her chest.

Before I could kiss the hell out of her, the hostess came back, and she was carrying a to-go bag, probably saving me from getting my face slapped in the middle of the restaurant. Landry Novak was everything that I never knew that I wanted in a woman, and there was no way that I was going to let her get away from me.

“Here you go,” the hostess-Brea-said conspiratorially.

“You’re the best, Brea,” Landry said as she took the bag. “You’re a real-life superhero, don’t let anyone else tell you different.”

When Brea noticed me, she smiled. “Can I help you with anything, sir?”

I shook my head. “No, thank you,” I told her. “I was just waiting with Landry for her dessert.”

Brea’s brown eyes darted back and forth between us. “Uhm…oh, okay.”

Landry scowled at me, unsure of what I was doing. Thankfully, she chose not to argue. “Well, thanks again, Brea. If you ever need a kidney, hit me up.”

Brea laughed good-naturedly. “Will do, Landry.”

Not waiting for an invitation, I followed Landry out of the restaurant. “Did you drive?”
