“Nope,” she answered, hugging her bag to her chest like someone might leap out and snatch it from her. “I took a cab.” She jerked her chin to the side. “He’s waiting for me.”

I pinned her with a look before making my way over to the cab. Taking out a few bills, I handed them to the driver, then sent him on his way. While it might just be a ride home, I was going to spend as much time with Landry tonight as I could.

As soon as I made my way back to stand in front of Landry, she asked, “I take it that you’re giving me a ride home, and that’s why you sent my ride away?”

“That would be correct,” I answered, grinning as I slid my hands into my suit pockets.

Landry’s blue eyes narrowed. “I’m not sharing my dessert with you, Rush,” she stated seriously. “I don’t care how rude or stingy that sounds.”

“Baby, that dessert in your hands is that last thing on my mind right now,” I smirked.

Her face bloomed with color. “You can’t talk to me like that.”

“Why not?”

“Because I work for you.”

“Not anymore,” I reminded her. “The audit is done.”

“But the final reports still need to be turned in,” she pointed out. “We can’t-”

“I don’t give a fuck about those reports, Landry,” I told her honestly. “I couldn’t give two fucks about the entire audit right now.”

“Rush, I-”

“I’m taking you home, Landry,” I said. “Period.” I reached for her hand, and I laughed when she made sure to hold on tightly to her bag with the other one.

The quirky woman eyed me. “Just taking me home?”

“Yes,” I promised. “I’m just taking you home.”

Even though she didn’t fight me when I threaded my fingers through hers, she still said, “But then you’ll know where I live.”

“I knew you were a smart cookie,” I chuckled before pulling her behind me.

Chapter 11

Landry~

Okay, I lied.

I didn’t have issues with tall, rich, powerful CEOs with dark brown hair, green eyes, and great bodies. If I did, then I wouldn’t be letting Rush Crawford drive me home, knowing that I wanted to jump his bones more than I wanted my dessert, and I really, really, really wanted my damn dessert.

There was also the fact that I looked like I could be homeless. I hadn’t planned on running into anyone when I had put my order in earlier. The plan had been to rush in, then rush out without anyone noticing me. After all, it was a Friday night, so I’d known that the place was going to be packed. However, even knowing that, I hadn’t ever imagined running into Rush Crawford, let alone, having him drive me back to my place.

When we were getting close to my building, I said, “You can pull up here. My building is that one right over there. It’s the one with the brick accent.”

“You’re crazy if you think that I’m going to just dump you on the sidewalk, Landry,” he remarked dryly.

“You’re hardlydumpingme on the sidewalk when I’mtellingyou to let me out,” I pointed out.

“All the same, I’m not dropping you off on the sidewalk,” he replied. “I can find a spot-”

“My building has a carport in the back,” I told him, still trying to figure out if I was making the biggest mistake of my life or the best decision ever. “There’s a shared parking lot that divides the block.”

“Do you own a car?”

“Yeah,” I answered. “I work crazy hours, so it’s a necessary evil.”
